subaextreme bash plate

Ordered a bash plate for an Outback diesel
looks the goods in 4mm alloy plate
reasonable bucks too I thought

Will be fitting it next week , instuctions seem nice and easy to follow
will report back when its done with some more pics

yeah Im quite impressed with the construction

was wary of the words "cast" , "aluminium" and "sump guard" in the same sentance but now seeing it first hand I think the design is quite bloody good

Are they still doing front bars for Gen2 Liberty/outback? I've tried contacting them with no luck.

Just realised I hadnt updated this

fitting went well 20 minutes and is still attached to the car I will grab a fitted pic, he lives across the road from me

any chance of getting him to put together a bash plate together for a gen 1 liberty and or the mighty l-series..? probably not worth constructing a cast for the limited number of patrons looking for them but worth a try.

cast aluminium looks great but it is cast and unless they have a really good annealing process it is still prone to stress fractures and impact cracking.

Arrrrgghh bloody hell Jules now Im researching annealing aluminium , bloody school teachers

now Im thinking how strong should it be??
if its too tough the car breaks yes???

its stated on website that the type of alloy is "easily weldable" so Im thinking something has to give and be repairable as a sacrifice for the good of the integrity of the vehicle

thoughts please ?

2 ways I know of to anneal aluminium

1. nitrogen rich atmosphere in an electric furnace with a set temperature for a set time the aluminium is then allowed to stand and cool.

2. an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide, glycerol and other fillers aka soap painted on the surface of the aluminium to an even coat. the aluminium is then heated until the soap turns carbon black then left to cool and cleaned when cold.

I tore my first subaxtreme sump guard. Did it on a stump hidden in some long grass.

Probably would've taken the sump off if the guard hadn't been there.

Went straight out and bough another one!
