Tyres for 14 inch sunraysias
Tyres for 14 inch sunraysias
Hi everyone,
I have an '89 L-Series wagon...fitted with 14' sunraysias, and Toyo H03 185R14 tyres. These are a light truck tyre, but with an aggressive mud/snow pattern. They wear very well, minimal wear from the 18 months since I bought the car.
These retail for $199 each...I was wondering if anyone can suggest something better available in Adelaide? I have seen a super tripper mud tyre on some posts, but aren't sure where to find them or how much they cost.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers
Roo

Hi Roo the Super trippers are a great tyre in mud and dirt but they are soft and wont last as long as the Toyos they cost $105 in Brisbane.
I did read something on here about them not being available any more don't know if it is true
They are made by Nankang Super trippers 27/8.5/14 ask a 4wd tyre outlet about them.

I went in to a tyre dealer about a week ago to get the 27" super trippers fitted. They told me that they are no longer. But they put me on these. These are meant to be the replacements for the super trippers.yarney wrote:

Hey guys, I have seen a few pics of L-Series etc with BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A's, size 27 x 8.5 R14LT (fitted to the wagon in the pic). Has anyone had these fitted, if so what sort of life do these tyres have?

LOL that pic was taken when Vidler owned that car...he did all the work to it. It was then sold to Lapsed, and parted out unfortunately. I believe Vidler has the roof cage now, and he custom made it along with the bullbar and everything else on it.(a very talented guy)
the BFG's are an AWESOME tyre, if your pockets deep enough to fork out the $220+ bill, then get some. They last for ages. Subarino has had them on hatchie for as long as ive known and theyre still full of tread. The tyres off lapsed car went onto brennyv's leone and did AWESOME both on and offroad, and they are now on his liberty with still over 80% tread after an absolute beating.
The BFGs are probably the best tyre you can get for 14inch rims IMHO.

Thanks guys...I've just been talking to a chap from Bob Jane (BFG quotes them as their retailer)...they tell me that despite showing that spec tyre on their website, they have never heard of it and it is not available!!
Bloody hopeless....does anyone know of a retail chain that might have more of a clue?

Bob Jane Cannington Perth are the ones who got my BFG's in.
They are not tossers when it comes to getting 14" Offroad tred.

Personally I have had Kumho M/T's and Wrangler TG's. Both were great. $175 for the kumho's and $145 for the TG's.
I posted a list of tyres around the 26" to 27" size for 14" rims here http://offroadingsubarus.com/forum/comm ... sionID=407

My two cents worth is try Maxxis 753's. I have had them on mu L for over a year done a ton of k's only about 50% worn very good mud pattern. I love them never had one staked or any damage. I get them in the 195R14 LT size but they also come in the 27". I like the 195 as it allows a little more travel without scrubbing and cuts through mud like a dream. I pay $140 fitted and blanced through Jaks Quickfit.

After all this research, I reckon I might stay with the Toyo H03's that are currently fitted....their wear has been excellent, with a very similar tread pattern to the Maxxis 753's mentioned earlier. Just for the record, the best quote I got was $149 from Tyrepower on main north rd (Opposite Subawreck). Jack baker quotes $200 per tyre - makes the 15 minute drive out to Para Hills worth it! Thanks for all the advice gents.
