jack up the rear end and spin the wheels around, should be able to figure out if its lsd or not.
Otherwise just take the backing plate off next time you change the diff oil - infact you'd have to do this to find out wether to put LSD oil in or not :)

What should the wheels do exactly?

I asked about diff oil a week or so ago and some said LSD oil for an LSD and some said the LSD was sealed and the diff proper uses straight differential oil...???

if its a viscous LSD (which it most likely will be) then you don't need special gear oil

look at teh sticker on the rear of the diff. it will tell you if its an LSD

Hehehe!!! Well said Dave!

SKT, love the footage of both the sand and the water... Shame the ECU got some of the action too. Glad its up and running again though.

The LSD will make both wheels spin in the same direction when they're jacked up off the ground. A standard diff will make one wheel spin in the opposite direction to the one you're spinning.

LSD's can be a great thing, If its a clutch LSD I know they can be serviced to be tighter, something I hope to do when I get hold of one...

Cheers

Lsd diffs came standard on GT and XT foresters (turbo models) not NA models. Spose it could have been a factory option though. Only way to know would be to remove the tail shaft and jack the rear up and turn one wheel and see if the other wheel turns the same way. Im not sure if there is an easier way on these AWDs.

Love the footage and stuff mate... good work.

I'd like some opinions on whether I've got and LSD in the rear because Al told me I did now.... I thought it would do better putting a heap of drive to the left wheel once that right wheel started spinnin like a mofo...

Nothin fancy bro....... I just rocked up to a random exhaust shop when i was in townsville and asked for a 2.5" from the cat back with a steel main straight for bashin and a nice suby note....

They went to work and about $300 later it sounded ok....

After i put the 2.5L in it was actually a bit loud and a bit too resonant so i had a second box put in towards the back...... Settled it down a bit and better on teh open road.
