asaik air bags came out on gen2's and even then not all of them had them,it depended on which model it was.
Heritage and outbacks got them, others ??
Never seen a gen1 or L with one.
Or buy an L series and get a lib steering wheel with air bag and fit it to the l.
It won't work but might look the part...

get a l-series, then buy a sticker that says 'airbag' and stick it on your steering wheel. problem fixed.

on a side safety note, i once saw a thing where they tested cars safety. Apparently the l-series was very safe for the driver(scored highly) but it was very dangerous to pedestrians and people in the car that you crash into(if that makes sense)

my07 Outback
my13 Hyundai i45(shhhh)
my02 Gen3 Liberty limited ed.

previously
L-series wagon, LSD, EJ20turbo, 29in tyres, 'wanky wagon'
2000 gen3 outback, lifted, otherwise stock.

My first was an 84 Touring Wagon that was about a month younger than me! That thing had more than it's fair share of bumps and scrapes and mistreatment. Ended up trading it in with the guy I bought my Outback from and he turned it into a hunting/paddock basher car.
nah come on i have a gen 2 ser 2 rx lib sedan Which has 2 air bags, and i take alot of care in it, it is in realy good condition and im only an L plater as such, the only thing thats happend to it whilst in my hands is a lady opened her door on it whilst i was sitting in it mind you but my mum wouldnt let me have a go at her.

but it might just be me i dont know, all subies need to be taken care off and trust me i do take really good care of it.
nuthin beats a subbi

Previous rides: 1998 rx liberty sedan, 2007 mitsu 380 and now a 2005 foz, lifted with bigger and black wheels ( Got rolled :( ) and now a 100 series land cruiser.

Its been interesting reading the comments posted! I liked the idea of getting a steering wheel which has an airbag and putting it in the L series - but parents would work it out eventually that it wouldn't actually work.

When I say 'first car' I mean me purchasing my first car. At the moment we have 4 cars to 4 drivers so i have been driving a 05 Outback and 04 golf 2l sport. and sometimes murano or the parado. I have not crashed, scratched or even lost demerit points (put that down to absolute luck) so I can drive. I just wanted to experience driving around in a old bomb that I can smash around in, take to the farm or go 4wd in the dunes down south. I'm going to be off my P's in May next yr.

Still, parents make a good point with the air bag - but really they say the decision is up to me.

Im thinking 3k for a car, the petrol prices are only 1buck, I may as well buy it just for fun. got some thinking to do.

You could probably make the airbag work, with enough fiddling around, but I wouldn't trust it and I doubt it'd be legal.
Living in Canada now. Looking at all these SVXs for sale...
I'VE GOT AN OUTBACK AGAIN WOOT
