you should download the appropriate maps of GPSaust for the trip. im going to be running my laptop with those maps..

bummer.

I reckon the best way to go is an old garmin handheld unit with a data cable (make yourself..) I get WAY better reception with my garmin GPS2+ than with the epson GPS module i have built into my carPC

I have seen old garmins go for as cheap as $20...

Can you give model numbers for the Garmins that take the data cable?
Was thinking that would be the most flexible option.
