1989 L series white paint code??

Post by Marty » Fri Mar 06, 2009 2:04 pm

G'day, I'm getting some paint mixed up in the morning for my 1989 L Series wagon. It was built in Feb 1989. The paint code seems to be missing. Just wondering if anyone can clarify whether the colour I need is Arctic White 982? Thanks legends.

Even someone with the supposed same model may have a different code.
Best to get the paint shop to narrow it down in their listings which are normally pretty accurate.
Either that or if it's a decent place they should be able to do a colour match if you bring in an example part of your car - ie the petrol flap.

But anyway my 1989 wagon was infact "arctic white" when I got them to look it up.

I have a white 85 L series wagon in white. I can go out and grab the paint code for you if you think it would be the same?

I went into autobahn one day to get some touchup paint and I didn't have any paint codes. They told me there were 3 different whites for an 89 L series. I bought the one that looked the closest but it didn't match.

I would go in with the car and get them to match the paint exactly. save any confusion that way.
89 L wagon: twin carbs, kings, kybs, 2" lift, rear discs, clutch lsd, L awd box, Kumho KL71 27s
85 Vortex: ej20 G, awd, 5 stud, 17's, almost on the road!
88 Bush basher L wagon: Welded rear diff
MY10 GEN5 Outback: white, and completely normal

yep see confusion already. Almost definite the 85 model is a different colour. Both my 85 and 86 model L series are a very different white to my 89 model.
(altho my signature photo doesn't show it!).

paint code should be on a sticker on inner guard next to strut top, i just bought a touch up can from a place that makes it up on the spot, mine happens to be a white L series as well, it is white 230, they looked it up on computer database but didn't mention 3 shades of white, but being japanese it wouldn't surprise me

Problem with touch up paint is that it's new - your paint code may say its the same colour but 20 years of weathering can slightly change the colour - a problem for doing touch ups, not so much if you're spraying the whole exterior of the car...

that's just how it turned out, you really do need to spray the whole car to get a proper match
