99 outback keyless locking problem

Post by penno » Wed Mar 18, 2009 2:43 am

Hello, Hope someone can help me.

The door display on the dash shows that rear hatch is open even though its locked!
which means the interior light stays on and the keyless entry won't work (because it thinks the hatch is still open), I can lock it with the key but not with keyless button.
The front and back doors have a switch/button with a rubber cap on them that pushes in when you shut the door, telling the locking system that the door is shut, but i can't find anything on the hatch that does the same thing, is it in the actual latch/lock?
Any help would be muchly appreciated
cheers
Penno.

pull the trim off the inside of the rear gate and next to the lock mechanism there will be a little black plastic? box which is your actuator for opening the rear gate that plays up sometimes you may be able to get one at the wreckers to swop in ... i think....that is where your problem is

sometimes these actuators fill up with water and corrode. you can open them up carefully and clean all the contacts. Should solve your problem (if thats what it is!)

does the tailgate have a separate switch to sense open/closed, like the other doors? I had the right rear passenger door slightly out of rig, so if I turned left the light would come on, and if I didn't push the door in a bit the car wouldn't lock.

I solved it by loosening the door latch on the car side and moving it in a bit, so the door would be in more when shut. I suppose I could have moved the switch out to achieve the same thing. If the tailgate is similar, maybe the switch has moved out of its position. (obviously the latch loop thing can't be moved further up or anything)

Is the actuator a little round plastic box, about the size of a 20c piece and maybe 10mil thick?

Thalass, I can't find a switch for the tailgate! nothing that resembles the ones on the other doors any how! I'm told this actuator does the same thing.

Sometimes. when i go over a bump the dash light (showing that the tailgate is open) goes out! I can then use the keyless remote as per usual, but then next time I hit a pot hole or whatever, on she comes, does this sound like a loose conection maybe...???
Thanks for your help guys...

If the interior light is flickering, surely it's an issue with the switch?

There might actually be one of those switches on each side.

Lube them up with silicone spray or WD40, maybe even take them apart for a good cleanout. If that doesn't work, replace them or just leave them disconnected.
