stock L series, 14" wheels, what maximum tyre size?

Post by Phizinza » Mon Apr 06, 2009 11:50 am

A mate of mine wants to know...

What is the largest tyre I can fit to a stock L series with 14" desert rats without cutting fenders or bashing (maybe a little bashing is ok)?

He doesn't want MT's, would like AT's but I doubt he'll find some to fit. His looking at LT's atm. But if theres a tough road tyre out there, let us know

I had 195/70R14 under my stock L wagon once to see how it went. They were pretty tight but didn't rub.

I have 185/65r14 and with enough weight in the boot to make it sit on the bump stops, there is only enough room for one finger between the tyre and the guard

Can't remember what brand but they would have been an aggressive road tyre. Not light truck though not in a 70 series. Must have been 15 years ago now.
Why not just lift it? Lift kits are cheap and you can run 27"s.:cool:

I'm running Maxxis 195/60/R14's on my (stock height) L and it seems to be fine and can turn wheels to full lock either way without issues, the only place it scrubs is wen i hit a large drop in the road while travelling at 100k's. But saying that, the old clapped out suspension may be a factor in that. :)

* EA82T Jap spec L series Wagon.

Previous rides: *Supercharged EJ25 Rwd Brumby
* 2 x 91' L series Ej20, 3 inch lift, mud tyres.

195/65R14 and 185/70R14 (stock liberty size) worked great on my old man's L

no rubbing with scorpion wheels. his suspension wasn't sagged though
