EJ22
L series Dual range Box
Adaptor plate and flywheel from steve rising sun
new l series clutch
all in an MY wagon
i have run the car on and off for about half an hour before this noise started happening
the noise stopped when you put your foot on the clutch, but now it just gets quieter
i have pulled the engine back out and there were no obvious signs of the flywheel hitting on anything, tho i didnt pull the flywheel off the engine
i have pulled the starter motor out while the engine was running and the noise is still there
i am currenbtly out of ideas so open to all suggestions
cheers

I have no sound card on this comp so I cant listen to the noise , what I can say is that it sounds like from your discription a noisy thrust bearing in the clutch , mine actually did the same thing when I did my conversion .
I never did anything about it and it got to a point after baout 20,000k's that I couldnt hear it any more
, never caused any problems.
Mike.

Dude that sounds nasty... I would cry if mine did that. Doesn't sound like the thrust bearing..... does sound a LOT like something it hitting something that it's not spose to.

EJ conversion wiring harness cut downs available. Please PM or email ([email protected]) for details.
Sounds to me like its in the front of the gearbox/ bellhousing area.
The knocking is hollow sounding, fingers crossed for you that its the flywheel or clutch.
Drain the oil and see if it has any metal in it, see if it is alloy or steel.
I bet its alloy from a rubbing part on the casing.
It may not even be in the oil galleries....hoping.

EJ22 Dual range AWD lifted, widened and much happier now thanks very much.
1991 L Series wagon, white and perfectly normal apart from the ticking, no I think that is normal.

pulled the engine out...
peejay hit it in one
YAY for peejay
it seems to have fixed the noise, i just cant picture in my head how the loose flywheel was making those noises
the flywheel wasnt rubbing on anything (no marks anywhere) and anything the blts could have hit was all connected and turning at the same speed when the clutch is engaged (which was when the noise was worst)
unless it was just the movent of the flywheel on the bolts making the noise
i dunno
just glad its better
thanks for the tip off peejay
and im gettin pretty good at this now.. abuot 3 hours to pull it all apart and back together
cheers again
