Using stock spare tire rims

I'm still on the hunt for a set of 15" rims for my 1986 GL. The spare wheel is a 15" rim. I was wondering if theres any reason I can't use this rim? I know its quite a bit skinnier than the other options but I was hoping to go with a narrow super swamper tire anyway.

Any issues with balancing these rims? I'm almost positive I can get a full set of these spare rims. I have 1, seen one at a wrecker, and theres a car exactly like mine listed in the local paper for $400.

you mean your space saver? I think you will find it is nowhere near wide enough to fit anything but a trail bike tyre

If you look up on ultimatesubaru you will find this question has been asked a few times before. The answer is always the same, don't. The people who have tried it reported the rims bend easily. Also you will find these rims state they should only be used in case of emergancy. Its well known that the space saver spare tyre in your car should only be used to drive to the nearest tyre shop and I think most of them have speed ratings that are very low as well.

I'm finding rims harder and harder to find. Should any machine shop be able to change the bolt pattern?

What bolt pattern is usually used so I can let a machine shop know and what do they usually charge? Its not a common thing up here in Canada but if I give them a bolt pattern to start with it would make their jobs a lot easier. I thought I remembered hearing that 1 hole can be reused or something?

Jap truck stud pattern is 6x139.7. Subaru is 4x140. So you can use two original studs for perfect alignment of the new jap (toyota, nissan, bits-r-missin, mazda, etc) 6 stud wheels. Easy enough job. I'm sure someone with a drill press and grinder can do it for you if you show them how easy it is.

waiting for someone like Lturbo to scream out. Luke search for Lturbos post "snow in May" from the beginning of this month. Look at the rims on his beast in the pics. Look familiar? They are off a Peugeot. Surely the French speaking ones in Canada only drive French cars?

They are 15" and as you can see , fit the Lseries just noice.

If you are talking about the skinny space saver tyre rim combo with the 80kph speed limit. As said above DON'T. I have seenmany pics of crashed cars at the wreckers wearing one of these space saver tyres. I'd hazard a guess the accident may have occured due to misadventure on a space saver.

I found one set of 15" pug rims and the guy wanted $500 for them. It was the only set of 15" rims I could find. My friend has an 1989 Toyota 4x4 with aftermarket tires on it in really good shape. They aren't special tires or anything but they're different from stock. Fairly nice tread pattern on them. Fingers crossed that I can convince him to sell me his rims and tires. I almost have him convinced on the tires. I believe they are a 30" or 28" tire. It will take some trimming but they should fit.

The subaru might even float afterwards...
