Have to welcome yet another sponser! My good mate and closet Subaru fan, Dale from Arid Airconditioning will have his signage to put on the car in Alice before scruiteeneering.
Dane: I spoke to the chief scruiteeneer and he assured me that my harness's will be fine. So, false alarm and $350 better off.
Wilbur: You've definately got the job. Might take you a bit longer if we get the camera running full time.
This is the Stauf clamp I used for the canister mount.

So apart from picking up some cushy seat covers for the hard back seats in the ute (i thought cattle farmers were supposed to be tough?) I am all ready to get on a plane wednesday morning. Well except for all the work I havn't got finnished for the boss yet...

We have stacks of good photos of the weekend. Not much credit left on the internet so I will post them up when we get home.
Damage for the weekend included a bent radius rod, a broken engine cross member, a holed fuel tank, a minor bingle with a buggy and a snapped cv shaft.
They both did extremely well on times when it was running unbroken. A bit more refinement and a couple of mods and next year they will be very competitive.
Before the breakage on the way down they were within spitting distance of passing the car that eventually came second in class. They were catching it and getting ready to over take when they hit a massive washout and broke the engine cross member and bent the radius rod.

The front struts are in and working great. Still got a lot of testing & tuning to do but initial impressions are hampered by the now inferior rear suspension. Can't wait to get the coilovers back under the rear end and see how it handles the rough stuff. I've ended up running all the available caster that we built into the adjustable strut tops because the handling improves enormously.
One of the new front struts.
Making it fit
Great job on the Brumby, do you mind if I ask what struts these are and what lower control arm setup etc you are running ?

Thanks for the support guys. We're all done for another year and on our way home.
My thanks to the guys who supported us and gave their own time and money to get all the way to Alice Springs for the toughest off-road race in the southern hemisphere. I'm very happy to have made it "there and back" and might have had a different story to tell had I not bent the front drivers side radius rod early on day 1. We slammed into a gully too hard after a sharp left turn into the morning sun made it a bit hard to see through the dust as we were chasing young Clayton in his Triton. We actually passed him shortly after when he was forced to retire with a broken valve but had to nurse the car all the way down to Finke so we could fix it. The extended length, double thickness radius rod was bent almost in half and the lower control arm was twisted about 90 deg. The engine cross member was cracked in a dozen places and we were very lucky to have made it into Finke without it breaking clean in half.
We had a much better run on day 2, overtaking 3 or 4 cars before snapping a front driveshaft 40km before the finish line and giving up one position in the process. The Brumby is a very different proposition when rear wheel drive only and suffers from massive amounts of rear wheelspin in every gear.
After destroying 2 tyres in testing before the event we were relieved to have a puncture free run from the MTRs while many other competitors wern't so lucky.
Now I'm looking forward to seeing the in-car footage and the official DVD.

It's all custom. The struts have the earlier 25mm wide upright mounts, 10" stroke and billet alloy tops. The lower control arms and radius rod have been lengthened about 80mm and heavily reinforced (and as we just found out, it's not strong enough).Checkers wrote:Great job on the Brumby, do you mind if I ask what struts these are and what lower control arm setup etc you are running ?
