Nooo... my beautiful Suby... nicked and smashed

Post by Kezpipa » Mon Jun 29, 2009 12:13 pm

some stupid bastard stole it last night and smashed it into parked cars and it's written off.

Was a great little runner, fantastic and didn't cause me any problems, I was looking forward to getting the heater repaired with my tax return...

RIP little buddy. You were wasted and it's a damn shame.

(Edit: Was an 89 L Series wagon... so not worth a massive $$$ amount... an absolute bargain considering the price and how well it ran. :( )

Yep, luckily. I know, whyyy did he/she do it. I can only assume they were high or drunk, yet capable of hotwiring. truly lucky they didn't hit any pedestrians.

Well, I have to admit I've been checking out ads on Carsales, Trading post etc. and ausubaru of course. I've never had a/c before and I'm keen on power mirrors and windows... (and a rear hatch that doesn't close on my head) so dreaming about a new car is easing the blow.

i was orginally going to go for another L series but after seeing some Liberty GX's, which look more comfortable, prob more weathersealed, I am definitely thinking along those lines. A bit newer would be good too, ideally 1991 and on. It looks like most Subies live in SA and QLD/NSW, as they did when I was last looking to buy, but I guess i'll be saving for a few months so ohopefulluy something awesome will pop up.

This onecaught my eye and I've asked about it in another thread because it seems pretty cheap.

then i think 'new engines have all the electronics which can f*ck up' so I think about getting another L series again of course!

just weish i'dbought a new Club lock, after I lost the key to mine , I can't help but think that $80 or whatever would be saivng me all this hassle...

or alarm and immobiliser installed?

Have a few test drive in a few Liberty - sedan, wagon 1st Gen & 2nd Gen.. depending on your budget... or stick with L series...

If my Liberty goes, I would be late Gen 2 again i'm comfortable with Gen 2 Liberty - not comfortable in Gen 1 Liberty due my legs (room)...

edit:
Electrics cant really f*** up i've driven a lot of electrics and they've been fine for me even I muck around with them... its simpler than what you think.
edit2:
Take your time and find a nice car, dont rush it - thats my advice.

That Liberty looks very neat and tidy, original stereo it either looks lowered or they still ahve the airbag suspension but looking at the pics of the engine bay and the pics of the dash it might have been removed after the bags where destroyed, that happened with mine and my brother put king springs in, im pretty sure they are the standard ones, Lame no lift. Also check the interior of the car if you go and have a look i know with the doors on my car the plastic stuff near the top of the door has got UV damage. You might want to check as well if it is lowered if it was done properly or if they just cut a ring out of the springs.

Bugger mate! This happened to baz a few months ago, but we were lucky the steering lock kicked in and they didn't get very far. Unlucky with the damage but lucky we got the car back. The police were really quick to have it dusted and returned to us for a small towing fee.

Baz is once again running around, now with a kill switch ;)

All the best with the hunt for a new subi :D

Cheers

thanks for the replies everyone... Just gotta wait awhile to scavenge together some cash before we begin looking properly really.

I'm getting the vibe that a car with decent K's left in the engine (hopefully round the 200,000 mark, give or take 20,000), a couple of mod cons, and RWC/ bit of rego left will cost us anywhere from $3,000 to what I'd pay as a maximum, $6,000...

I am looking forward to the hunt but have to save up first :/ I'll keep an eye on the forums!
