I pulled the actuator off my spare EA82T dizzy this afternoon so I can send it away tomorrow .
I need to know if the Auto's distributor or actuator is any different because I think the Vortex it came from was a front wheel drive one .
Steptoe does your early factory WSM show any differences between manual and auto turbo dizzy's ?
Cheers Adrian .
BTW we changed slightly the clock springs tension in the AFM today and it does feel a little better , still a little retarded timing wise but a working dizz actuator will help a bit there .

Thanks Steptoe , I mailed my spare dizzys diaphragm assembly off to that mob in QLD this afternoon so hopefully have it back soon .
My car is doing a few weird things and fingers crossed having the distributor working properly will help .
The timing feels retarded but I'd like to have the actuator working properly before advancing it up .
I noticed the part of the dizzy that the actuator pulls backwards or forwards was quite stiff , a bit of working it back and forth did free it up and reminded me that mechanical distributors need to be pulled apart occasionally to clean and lubricate the advance mechanism . They get dust and crud in them and parts that should move freely get a bit stiff which could affect the rate the bugger advances/retards .
Also to be 100% sure can you confirm that these early EA82T engines (Aus spec) use NGK BPR6ES-II spark plugs . It turns out that my engine has BP6ES plugs in it , thinking it had BPR6ES ones I bought a set of BP7ES's so I could try resister and non resister plugs . I swaped the BP7ES's for BPR7ES's but haven't got around to trying them yet .
I was hoping not to have to use an aftermarket engine management system but if the dizzy doesn't make a sizable improvement I may not have much choice . If I have to at least I can use the later systems crank angle sensor and transister and have options with one dual or four coils . Possibly a double ended coil with a waste spark system .
Also opens up choices with larger injectors . Vipec V44's look like good things .
Work please dizzy , cheers Adrian .

with the plugs the manual seems to leave it up to the individual tuner with the three spark plug options in NGK, with & without Resistor - not real helpful are they ? Not a great deal of difference noticed when I got a working diaphragm but noticeable. Is this the same dizzy, spark plug choice and TPSwitch you ran with the previous motor? with the spider manifold etc?

Yes all same , which NGK's I don't remember .
Actually the feller doing the actuator just rang me up , needed Visa number , and to say that the actuator I supplied was quite stiff . He said mostly the diaphragms go stiff and brittle and then split/leak .
The blue colour is a bit gaudy for my old bus so it'll come back black .
So other than leads or maybe the coil I'm not sure whats up the wall , definitely should run better than it does . By that I don't mean the agricultural engine design , I mean the stuff controlling ignition and fueling .
The turbo has never been the same since I fixed the water line leak so whatever went pear shaped there isn't helping .
Cheers A .

The actuator was posted back to me this afternoon and was fitted early this evening .
It made everything a bit smoother and torquier and I think the fuel consumption will improve a little as well .
It still has a very slight miss and a slightly hunting idle at times .
I'll be busy work wise until Sunday afternoon and then I'll get a mechanic friend of mine to go over the leads and check resistance levels . The coil should also be checked and compared with the early spare EA82T coil I have .
I'd like to see exactly where the timing is and maybe advance it up a tad to see if it helps .
I think this engine is choking on that tiny turbine and housing but that won't be forever .
I'm checking up on larger hose tail injectors but there doesn't seem to be a lot available in the 370cc range with high resistance , most are low resistance peak and hold types that require an in line resistor .
I think std squirters are around the 230-250cc size so quite limiting .
Also checking up on twin tower coils though four singles would make for the shortest leads .
In time , cheers A .
