But I dont really want to spend the money on an aftermarket header
EA82T exhaust header gasket keeps blowing
EA82T exhaust header gasket keeps blowing
As title says I'm sick of putting a new gasket on the passenger side every few months. Anything else I could be doing to make it last longer? I'm using genuine gaskets. Obvious this would be ideal....

Check that the flange on the header is nice and flat/flush. Another reason that they continually blow is the exhaust studs are loosining up due to the holes in head being stripped or worn. You can go up to 7/16x16. no drilling involved just a lil tapping. You could also run a helecoil into each one and then refit the studs. M10x1.25 helecoil

if the gasket has been blown or leaking for a while it erodes the surface of the metal and new gaskets only work temporarily. check both surfaces are flat. sealant won't won't work all that well if it is bad as the pressure will blow the sealant out. can work for a while tho.
Espicially bad if aluminium as is softer.

Whats wrong with doing it like that, i did it a dozen times and worked every timesteptoe wrote:You are not doing it someone elses way and snipping bits off to sneak it in while engine still in car?

There are 2 types of gasket, there are pics in the 2nd link below. But as Jon said, make sure the mating surfaces of the flanges are flat
Here are 2 of the latest threads on EA82 exhaust flanges
would anyone be interested? EA82
Does anybody else have problems with EA82 exhaust manifold gaskets?

A little voice kept saying that in the back of my mind, but i figured i would much rather replace the gaskets 6 times a year, than have to remove the downpipe againsteptoe wrote:Oh, might be WHY you needed to do it a dozen times (says he in a little voice, who mixed up turn lights & reverse lights)
