Getting RWC on a lifted, turbo G1 Lib in Vic?
Hey guys,
Looking at getting a G1S1 GX Liberty wagon, with 3" lift, outback suspension, RS turbo motor etc.
It is currently unregistered. How hard would it be to get rego on something like this in VIC? I've read a few differrent things regarding lifts, 2" is legal but 3" requires mod/engineer plate? Up to the mechanics discretion?
It has a turbo motor out of an RS Lib fitted, am I right in thinking this doesn't require mod/engineer plate as this model came out with the turbo motor fitted/the motor fitted is within +-20% of original capacity (2.2 - 2.0T)?
As long as Vicroads have correct engine number etc it should all be sweet?

but if it a turbo don't thay count that as a 60% increase on the engine size .
Say if it was a 2.0 lt engine then it wood be up to 2.2 size increase but with a turbo it wood be 3.1lt engine as this is the way thay are doing it up hear in the NT now .
It works out it can not be done with out a mod/engineer plate for a L series .
that is y i went and buy a 86 rx as it came out with all the plates for a turbo .

i went from a 2.2l to a 2.5l and i went to the department of transport and they said i didn't have to do anything. and in queensland the rules are crap for car mods.
l series 2" lift 27"boots s/s snorkel full roof racks.

I've spoken to a few engineers so far for a 3 inch lift and 27 inch tyres without anyone wanting to approve the changes yet... It seems the threat of being sued by someone injured in a stack with a modified vehicle that has their signature on the cerficiation is enough for most to say no...
As for the turbo conversion - if your liberty is a wagon and the Australian delivered Liberty wagon was not sold with a turbo version, you'll more than likely have to engineer the motor, from what I've found out so far, this will be harder if its an imported motor as the emission equipment will be built for a different standard.
Its a pretty simple, effective and safe mod to do to your subi (lift and tyres) but I'm yet to find an engineer that will say yes to their signature being on the certificate, I've been through three that are an hour's drive or more from my place.

Not sure if the engine is ADM/JDM yet, though I'm assuming its a Jap-spec motor.
In Aus we got G1S2 RS Turbo wagons, no G1S1 though, not sure what effect this will have.
Going to speak to the mechanic friday, will keep this updated.

I've been reading the VSI-8 - 1.06mb (dated may 2003). From what I can gather on that I may not need an engineer's report - by comparing the EA82 turbo output to the EJ22 it should be about the same. And its strange that the engineers are happy to sign off on my engine conversion yet won't touch the lift or tyres - even though its stated in the VSI 8 the max legal lift and tyre diametre... I thought an engineer was there to work outside of these standards to make sure it was done properly and safely.
Make sure your "mechanic" is a registered VASS engineer -this document is about the same size as the other I think... If your mechanic is on this list and he's willing to sign off on your lib, could you find out if he's willing to do the same for an L series.
All the best with it - I'm keen to get the lift and wheels on mine.
