yeah same as early wrx pretty sure. U can get generic ones off Ebay for about 50 bucks, most people rekon they work fine. Genuine Subaru pretty expensive...maybe FROG can post up a part number and price though.

mainly very very heavy fuel usage, down on power, off on response but mostly the fuel to the piont you can smell it real bad on idle but if you put your foot down it pours out fuel smoke.....be lucky to get 200k,s a tank

mate.. Buy it off ebay. Get them from america if need to. Sounds like it could be O2 sensor. Maybe coolant sensor & knock sensor might be worth replacing.
Cheers

What alpine said bill could be any of them, i would start with pulling the coolant sensor and cleaning it, then move the knock sensor up onto the rubber mount that the WAIC mounts to!! if problem still persists see your doctor...... oh what that if your taking pain killers my Bad!!!

but really failing all that it will be O2 sensor or poss injectors.

my o2 sensor's stuffed in my wrx motor too. i've got all those problems you mentioned. only getting 250 k's per tank, very fumey, low power, not very responsive plus heaps more! i've tried to find one on ebay but the only one on there is $275. let me know how you go with it
cheers, leo
