i couldnt work out wether this should go in performance or my ride meh if it gets moved it gets moved
took my new engine out today
flywheels off and ready to get the meat ttaking off.
for anyone with an ea82 and has played with it there is a lot more than you think on it. im going to put some pics up soon of the work.

The factory flywheel on an EA82T , which I'm guessing is just the 4WD EA82 one , is really heavy . Mine was turned to lighten it and sent back to be milled because it was still too heavy .
If you get yours milled tell them to replace the timing marks otherwise you won't have any . I have a Vortex pointer on the front of my engine so alls not lost .
What you'll notice is that the engine loses revs noticably faster on up changes which is good news for the boxes syncromesh . Also the engine revs up more easily when double declutching down the gears quickly . Basically faster transients due to less revolving mass . There would be an improvement in low gear acceleration because less energy is lost accelerating the mass of the flywheel so more goes into driving the gearbox .
My clutch shuddered just a little when this was first done but it was with a newly rebuilt engine and the clutch is a one off organic sprung special . Also my L RX runs the non turbo pedal box because the turbo ones linkage kept breaking itself , so the pedal ratio is not what it should be and the clutch can be a bit sudden because of it . Just thumps a little if not thinking about it . No shudder when the friction plate bedded itself in .
For throttle response with the std TB , it would be a great shame if the damper gadget mysteriously unscrewed itself and fell out because the return to idle is faster without it . Much nicer for these ancient gearboxes .

heres the work in progress and yes we did save the timing marks if you can just see them, they may stay they may not. depending on how well it works at the end

total weight is now 9.5 so a reduction in 3 kilos now this mayy not sound like much but most of it is from the outside edge, so with the torque foot per pound it saves roughly 30 kilos in first gear at the wheels.
the engine is likely to go into a formula vee chassis and be used for hillclimbing, racing in formula libre and possibly offroading in single seater catagory. if we make the jump to the ej motor then yeah the engine will probably go into the road car

I did see mine after it had been milled and it did feel a lot lighter than another std one I have . From memory it was milled in the sections between where the pressure plate bolts down .
On the road it feels real good .
Flywheels don't make power but at speed they store revolving mass . Mostly what they do is even out your cylinders power pulses and stop the engine stalling when you take off at low revs .
In an off roader a std one would be good for walking along in low gear .
MY RX L has an AWD box in it with the low or carby L low range gears so crawling along is no issue . I actually took it off the road briefly a couple of days back , over a hump and into a service trail . Didn't shudder in 1st low when climbing back up a clay shelf so no probs here .
