Fully stripped Subaru vs fully equipped Toyota.
The weight difference would be noticable.

The 8 valve subaru is also quicker than a certain MR2, liberty turbo and MX5.. In lap times

The 20v will smash the subie down the straight but when it comes to the bends the subie will smash the 20v resulting in about 1.5s quicker per lap

A combination of Semi slicks, driving style and all those wierd and wonderfull suspension mods is the ticket but the corolla will end up a quicker car with mods, the first being wheels and tyres

it's amazing the difference something as simple as tyres does to a car's ability to corner. i just love how ricers put 18" (and larger) wheels with the lowest profile tyres they can on and think they'll go quicker and handle better. personally, i wouldnt use a tyre lower with a lower than 50 profile for handling. 45 profile if that's what fits better, but 50 is preferable

The big wheels also rasie the centre of gravity..

I think what helps makes the subaru handle well is everything is low in it, like the engine as it sits lower than the top of the front tyres..

its probably more aerodynamic too,
