Fuel Smell

Post by iananita » Thu Mar 04, 2010 3:07 pm

Have an intermittent strong fuel smell 92 Liberty inside cabin.

I have not looked yet but I know fuel lines travel thru cabin on passenger side, anyone encounter this problem before?

Cheers

Have isolated smell more from a/c.

When a/c on recycle smell is very evident while on fresh no smell.

Recently had a/c serviced will have to look at it on week end.

i was going to say, the fuel lines/hoses could be cracking up and would be worth looking hard onto... Specially in engine area.
Cheers

Thanks. Obvious not common problem.

Hoses under bonnet are fine. I pulled glovebox out yesterday and fuel line disappear behind fan box.

Smell evident when air on recycle. A/C checks ok, no leaks, I had the boys test it so it will be fuel lines.

Can I get fan box out without removing the a/c condensor?

Just adding more here. The fuel smell inside cabin worse when hot + when fuel tank full. I have disconnected the tank breather and re run it under the car. Has fixed the problem at this stage

We have this problem in the L series sometimes, but the smell is there almost all the time, not just with the A/C
Will it ever end!?

Just a thought

Check the fuel filter in the engine bay - mine had the smallest of cracks, so only wept on a hot day.

Just check to make sure your 'purge solenoid' is working correctly and is connected to the carbon cannister.

Fuel filter changed every 10,000km
Purge solenoid checked and re-checked
This problem has been intermittent and plagued me for the last 12mths. I would love to see the set up of the 3 fuel pipes behind the A/C condensor it would appear there is a hole in the breather pipe. I have run a rubber hose from the fuel tank breather near the passenger's side rear wheel to the metal pipe breather on top of engine. No further fuel smell inside the cab. There was never a smell under the bonnet
