OK... (Deep Breath)...

It's all fixed. And now it drives better than it ever has since we bought it about 18 months ago.

Problem was the Mass Air Flow Sensor. I did clean it weeks ago when the problem started getting really bad but i cleaned it carefully as instructed by mechanics and every single person i know.

Having narrowed it down to most likely being this sensor today i took a more hardcore approach after noticing a very very finely wound thread around one of the elements. This was extreamly difficult to see... i used a magnifying glass.

I scrubbed the sensor with a cable tie and drowned it with Air Flow Meter cleaner. I did this maybe 10 times in a last ditch attempt to fix it.

Installed it back into the car today after an ECU reset overnight and POW!!! It's fixed.

MASSIVE improvment in performance and i could not really hear the turbo and blow off valve before (even though it was boosting). But now the turbo is very very noticable. What felt like a gear box problem is now gone too.

BIG HUGE MASSIVE SUPER TURBO thanks to RSR 555 (paul). Mate your a champion. Your the type of person that is exactly why i used to (and maybe will now) frequent this forum a lot. Also big thanks to everyone who posted in here. Without some positive posts on here i probably would have given up all together and i certainly would not have found the problem.

yeah most likely... slowly loosing power... they must have thought the motor was about to die.

It's funny how Subaru Dealer tests drive it and didn't find a problem with it's power output.

LOL yeah no half cut needed. I think if i had more time off work and the cash it would have been too late and i would have bought one... I was desperate to get this car working ASAP.

I must also say thanks to you Julian ;) feel the TGV delete is something that would have (if it wasn't already) given trouble at some stage.

I think that, and NO THANKS to the Subaru Dealership, the Foz had a combination of issues that needed to be sorted, so in eliminating/replacing some stuff like the trans oil certainly helped.

Great to hear it is going well again!!! and this is what forums are all about, a wealth of knowledge in one place with no bullshiting mechanics who try and fix it charge you heaps and do nothing!!!

not a problem I'm here to help however possible and in a couple of weeks at the most, I would do that trans oil again and the filter just to get most of the junk out of the trans but first I would put in a transmission conditioner and take it on a nice open road cruise of a couple of hundred KMs just so that the oil was well and truely washed around the box. (it helped my trans heaps)

Have you had this Foz with this problem all the time you have owned it - 18 months?

I think it has from what Subarino has said, but its been slowly getting worse til he cracked and needed some answers. I know the feeling :(

Glad its all sorted Dave! You've gotta be happy with that! I hope it all stays running like it is now.

You should still send hatchie this way ;)

Cheers

It has had performance issues since i got it... but with nothing to compare it to i thought it might have been normal. (De-tuned WRX motor).

In the last month it had got noticably worse to the point where i knew something must have been wrong. This was mainly noticed after towing my camper after a couple of months doing work to the camper.

Yeah the performance is great now... would it beat the hatch... i think so.
