my82 gearbox crossmember for my00 lib awd box

Post by 82coupe-man » Tue May 25, 2010 2:04 am

hey, A friend of mine rolled his lib recently, and I've come into ownership of the driveline and loom,
can anyone who's already made a gearbox crossmember to suit an '82 leone with a ej25 manual box (unsure of trans's model number)
possibly make me one too for $$$? or point me in the direction of getting one?

also do u guys use both the manual and auto crossmember boltholes or just the manual ones? i thought of this after looking under a 96 lib wagon, and the crossmember is an Xshape I'd like this type of thing but to suit my leone as it would put less stress on chassis

From what I've seen so far is everyone just makes their own as required but as we are about to do the same for Jules (Toonga) then I'd also be interested if someone has one already made?

yeah most people just make something up themselves at the time.
It's best to use the auto mounting holes for a rear support, as well as the front support, both linked together with the EJ middle platform. This way the standard EJ gearbox mount sits on the middle section like it normally does. Naturally this spreads the load better.....however don't over-think or over-engineer this. probably 90% of the gearbox weight actually goes onto the engine crossmember anyway. With the gearbox mounted to the engine you can very easily tilt the back of the gearbox (where the tailshaft goes) up and down with 1 hand.
Of course do it properly, but just bare in mind it doesn't have to be a ridiculously substantial mount.
