Not sure if Hastings are the suppliers for OEM Subaru rings but they are good quality. As for the machining of them, we used to do this to the early WRX EJ20 Turbo engines (back in the early 90s) because the OEM were the only ones available at the time and we rallied these engines for years without any issues. What you need to work out is the cost between machining the pistons/rings as apposed to just the price of the OEM ones? We found it worked out cheaper as we were replacing them quiet frequently.

Thank you to all that helped. We have an outcome :)

We found a new supplier of rings so we put it all back together and she now runs like new.
I hope the rings dont end up the same way the last lot did. The oil rings were flush with the piston and full of carbon so they may aswell have not even been in there !

If anyone ever needs the part numbers for a ej253 rebuild I should have them :)
