Getting closer......
Hi folks,
The nice people at the UK shipping agents - Fallows - have emailed me today and the good news is that the Brumby front cut is due to arrive at Felixstowe on the 1st July. It will then be unloaded at the port and then transported to the freight handlers for me to collect from.
Getting giddy with excitement!
Cheers

Uk spec foglamp.
Hi folks (again)
Some of you have shown interest in the foglamp set up featured on UK spec Brumbys.
Well here are some images of my trucks set up.
The standard set up is one foggy fitted into the space behind the small removable panel in the rear valance.
On my restored truck I have added a second foggy to the other panel to balance things up, I think it looks better like this.
This is a common mod done here although the foggys are getting rare now in un-broken condition.
Both mine are wired up and work (have to for the MOT test here - if fitted they must work) - the rotary switch to turn them on is mounted on the dash just next to the door in the little panel just below the airvent.
Forgot to take a piccy of this.
Thats all folks!

You bet ! It must have been a nightmare for them.....plus knowing that they would never come back to their 'home'.steptoe wrote:I bet the convicts that set out from the UK to expand New Hollands population some 220 years ago would love to have had a stop over in Singapore and done the reverse journey so quickly...... waiting with you
Interesting on the foglight(s). I guess that means you never had a factory option for full-size rear bumper like we got on the Ag-Quip models or the US got as standard...
By all means an interior shot of the switch would be of interest. Always good to see what options were available elsewhere to find out why all those blank plates were fitted to the dashboard (I've still not seen any MY with the cutout to the LEFT of the A/C button filled - my guess is early Jap cars with headlight wipers might have used it).

That is your Brumby, not factory fotos of new back in mid eighties? I want your tailgate and bumperettes if still like that - man...
I have removed the RHS plate from mine and fitted a 55W driving light for when I drive backwards just on reverse light circuit, no relay or extra. One light is dead on lights as two reverse lights is maximum number for ADR's

As promised here is a image of the foggy switch position and of the double blank panels - one of which will be soon ocupied by an A/C switch !!!!!!
(images hot off the press -well Iphone actually from my UK spec MV / Brumby)
You could be correct about about the second blank, wonder if anyone else knows if this is what its for??
We only ever got the basic truck officially here so no full width rear bumpers or other goodies for that matter!
Only the bumperettes at the rear, manual windows , no a/c, no targa roof no leccy windows or central locking.. BAH!!
As for the Ag-Quip model.
After reading the current post about the Ag-Quip it dawned on me.....about 6 months ago there was an Ag-Quip brumby on ebay here for sale, asking £1,200 for it and it wasnt even all that tidy, at the time I was puzzled at the full with rear bumper and the tonneau cover and the buttons /catches around the sides to hold it on I'd never ever seen one like this before. Then of course the decals.
So I guess this would have been one of the imported Brumbys talked about in the artical.
I just wonder how many were actually ever imported to the UK?
Cheers for now
Giles.

The answer is NO Jonno - you cant have it - its mine!steptoe wrote:That is your Brumby, not factory fotos of new back in mid eighties? I want your tailgate and bumperettes if still like that - man...

Its actually all new - the tailgate, the handle and Scooby badges (except the long one) and both bumperettes and mountings. So the time warp has sort of advanced to 2010 !
Anyway 'Scruffy Do' has had a new tailgate on him at some point - and I'm still waiting on the bank transfer from you for him ! (the bumperettes have done one though)
You buy scruffy you get a new tailgate! hahaha! (could work out expensive though!)
Good idea about the driver light for reverse - weve done that on our Merc Sprinter.
I recon those mountings you mention are to do with fixturing during manufacture. Its my guess that for smaller production runs (like the Brumby was) Fuji wouldnt have wanted to invest in all encompassing rapid fixturing for assembly hence the on chassis 'clamping'. Whilst slower makes economic sense....just my take on it.
I was in the Nissan (Sunderland) plant 4 months ago (I sell machine tools), the assembly fixtures there are total hold and all the ones I saw were all automated- they gota be due to volumes they make there 250,000 cars per annum and growing.
It was a good day out up there!
Cheers for now

UK Spec original radio
Yes sort of faces upward - this is still the original MW/LW unit which will be ditched shortly when we fit the A/C - no point doing it sooner as we will prob have to dismantle the dash to fix in the A/CuCb wrote:hi giles with photo of center of dash it looks like the radio faces up to the roof no to the back of the Ute is this right in aus it faces to the back
Have got an ace Blaupunkt DAB / CD to go in.
Here is another piccy of the original UK spec radio set up.

Those seats (and that paint work!) forgive me if I have asked before, they are Subie something, Foz? Much work to fit? I ask as I have a pair of 88 - 91 Maz 626/ Ford Telstar Ghia seats sitting around a few years now. Made the drivers seat fit with adjustment but was too high. Just finsihed revised fit with 25mm steel tube shs bolt into seat sides, and another 25mm shs rail bolts to floor lengthwise. So far got three of four bolts going through the two 25mm shs on top of each other for correct height for me and not adjustable back forward so set to my leg length. I no longer recommend these seats for a fit to a Brumby/MY. Now, if I had found some sexy KF Laser seats that almost bolt straight in.... MX5 seats look like should fit nice, light but pricey. My Maz 626 seats are a matching grey velour and comfy as. Now, for the left one to do same, structure underneath is different left to right
Those seats! mmmmmm!!

The seats are Foz seats from a 2002 my car. had them given would you believe!
Stripped off all bolt up points from them and fixed on the original brumby ones from a set of Knacked Brumby seats one by one. (earlier images on this thread some where).
You get full adjustment and the drivers has all the squab ajustment as well - really worth doing the work and having plus it kinda keeps the Scooby DNA thing going.
BTW I got round to cleaning them up today with foam seat cleaner...they look like new now!
Need images of the mountings??? just ask - happy to oblige.
The paint job was a glass out & doors off - £1200 job total re-spray.
Washed it yesterday looks the dogs wotsits at the mo!
Just one question the air vents on the dash are a right TW$T to clean - can these be dismantled easliy to clean or is it impossible?
Anyone help?
Cheers
Giles.

Jonno makes mental note on Foz seats. I think if i keep on with MK3 set up,or the left side first attempt, I will combine factory seat sliders but as insurance goes I am only driver and these seats fit nice leg length etc, rib squeezer adjuster.
My seats were given to me, as a birthday pressie from me dear old mum
the side demister vents in the dash are held in by a screw from inside from memory, then there is the vents in the strip above glovebox, again held in place with inside dash screws, i think. Compressed air nozzle is great so long as you don't blow the ducks of at the back. Paint brushes of various sizes also help here.
On TV we have an ad with a coupla kindy kids with one telling the other about heir great heating system with ducks in the floor blowing warm air out. We see the other kids mind, visioning little yellow ducks stuck in the floor at about water level blowing warm air out their orange quackers. We also get a lot of extra uses out of duck tape

Giles,
Thanks for dash photos.
In response to some q's on this thread...A/C can be fitted without removing dash - I did it no problem. Hardest bit is getting the existing fan motor out and replacing with the (much larger) combined A/C unit. You probably have the deep glovebox, you need to change it for the shorter version (can cut down the existing unit and then fit a cap off a standard MY with A/C from the wrecking yard, in my case I just replaced the entire glovebox and lid (MY touring wagon gets a vanity mirror which the Brumby misses out on, so I replaced it at the same time).
Cassette deck - UK MV appears to get the early run slanted console which can take a full-size DIN CD player (need to get the angle right when mounting so the CD doesn't hit the dash when ejecting). These are found on 1980-1982 MY's in Australia, generally in tan but I have found 1 blue and 1 grey (grey is uncommon in early MY's). I painted my tan unit with grey plastic paint which is a close match to Brumby grey interior.
Air vents - I don't believe they can be removed from the front, I know my far left vent is still wonky from trying to pull it when I fitted the A/C.
I see you don't have pass-side map door pockets, they're a dead easy fit (just grab from a base model coupe (or sedan ? not sure if sedan is shorter), tourer gets carpeted version which won't match). There are drill positions pre-marked on the back of the door panel. Have you fitted intermittant wiper system ?
Dean.

Will have a look for the fixing screws. What I am trying to clean is 19 years worth of 'hard on' grime - all the light dusty stuff came out the other day when I open the systems 'taps' full on - 'kin dust crap and tree seeds every where in the cab whilst belting along at 60mph (tasted crap too!).
This prompted me to do the full valet thing this weekend.
Cheers

Many thanks for your comments.
I should be OK for all the correct A/C goodie bits - as hopefully we will get the lot on the Brumby cut (eta here very soon) good to know we can fit without a full out strip down! I did the same to an Isuzu Trooper some time ago and that was the same - no full dash out (pet hate of mine taking dash out fully!)
I would love to have an extra door pocket. But I only know of one 2 door car breaking for bits......I have asked the question and am waiting for their reply!
Here in the UK those L series, MY's leones etc have all but gone off the roads now, 20year old cars are a rarity here add to that if they were rare when new then you have next to no chance of dropping on one.
99% of Brumbys here had the grey trim ( only ever seen one -on ebay- which had the buff / brown trim it was a very early one 82 I think so probably only an odd one of them left now)
As far as I know all the MV's / Brumbys here had intermittant wipers as standard kit ( all of mine have ) Ideal for UK kinda weather! Its on the wiper control switch (lhs circular switch) delay is set so no delay adjustment possible.
The layout of the controls in the Brumby cab are really straight forward dont you think compared to modern cars. No nonsense and fairly rugged.
The audio electrician I will use for the Blaupunkt fit has had a look at the truck, he didnt seem to see any great problem. The unit I have to go in is a Woodstock which has the removable front so we'll have to see how that works out, worst case is that we lift the height of the unit to give any movement clearances needed.
Plus having some shmacko new speakers in the doors coupled with sound deadening backing material - so that the sound doesnt travel back into the door void and cause irritating vibrations etc.
Wont be able to keep the original subaru speaker covers though!
Cheers for now
Giles.

Oh, please don't go looking for vent screws - think you need to have dash out, or the drivers little bits bucket in dash underneath, has screws in its roof, gives some access to things. Remove glovebox on other side to get passenger side vents a looking at.
The A/C fitted to my Brumby allowed for full glovebox, so no mods to it. Clarion?
Dean also mentions map pockets on doors. They are actually marked L and R yet look almost identical other than the L and R , to my casual observations. My bet is R will fit on L door.
