Being an STi box I'm sure it has some form of front LSD. Would be an advantage offroad to a certain point.

How much were those plugs worth??? I know my wallet takes a bitch slapping all the time but that's for other reasons!

And don't knock the olympus camera! Awesome piece of kit in my opinion...

Cheers

Bennie platinum plugs were $28 each x 6.

Olympus camera takes good quality pictures. But as i said unlike every other brand that uses universal USB cords and memory cards Olympus have their own unique one which doesn't integrate with anything else. E.g the card reader on my laptop, spare USB cables, etc which makes it a pain. Freebie Sony camera on the other hand that i found at the beach is basically all generic accessories.

Cheers,
Rhys

NICE! From the dude we talked about last weekend??

Should make for a great all rounder with LSD's front and rear

Fair enough on the Olympus. I do have an SD card adaptor somewhere that fits them into the regular SD slot... Just got to find it. I might have to upgrade my mini SD card to an 8 gig one. 4 gig just isn't cutting it these days!

Have fun pulling your rear diff out! Its a bitch in a liberty!!

I love all the Lego on the background!!

Good find and I'll be interested to hear your impressions on the LSD, since mine hasn't got one...

I was under the impression i was buying a plated LSD, i assumed that meant clutch pack, as clutch = plate. Took some more pictures to confirm. Looks like the clutch plates i have seen on the internet, although apparently the VLSD has some too?

Grooved plates stacked on top of eachother, compressed together with a concave washer thing that i'm holding in my hand.

Also i could have a VLSD already in the rear? Shouldn't these behave as an open diff untill the liquid is heated sufficiently to engage the mechanisms inside? Thats what i just read on USMB anyway. So could this mean when its cold that both rear wheels turn in opposite directions? Not fussed if this is the case since i won't have to machine the diff housing to fit my latest purchase.

Cheers,
Rhys

New ride to sit next to the Lib. 174,000 kms. AC and power steering.

Was on Gumtree Melb. $1200 with RWC and 6 months rego. I have been on the search for a cheap ride, as my girlfriend gets nervous about driving my Lib in case she damages it. Enter perfect excuse to buy a classic Suby. No window rust front or back! Spots of rust on the roof and in the roof gutters, a little under one of the rear side window trims. Runs like a pig, definitely needs some tuning TLC to get it purring.

Yep that is definitely a plated diff or CLSD

The viscous centre diff looks identical because the outside case is the same as the clutch type unit.

The viscous centre cannot be dis-assembled like the clutch one can

Nice ride with 14's as well, though not so sure about the hub caps, are they square?

That's great news for you Rhys. Make sure you "shim" the springs that clamp the plates for extra pressure on the plates = a tighter LSD  You do this by adding the same number of washers of a certain thickness to the springs - that's what I've read on quite a few forums while looking into Hilux diffs... Don't ask why...

Classic! I don't know what she's scared of, its not like she's done any damage to it - everyone else seems to be good enough at that so far :(

As for the MY, looks like a great purchase! When's the EJ and 5 speed box coming?? A "little" EJ20 would go sweet in there - or an EJ20G so she'd have some sort of chance keeping up with you in the Lib  Yeah, that'd be the way to go... Not that I'm planting a seed or anything

Then a 2 or 3 inch kit, some larger rims and you'll both be set!

Cheers

LSD shim might be on the cards. Will start with it as is and see what it is like.

MY will will keep the EA81, just want something cheap and simple unlike the H6. Every bloody H6 part costs $400. Re: gearbox Bennie just waitng for you do to a 5 speed conversion on Sunnie so i can follow your DIY ;) I will have an L series 5 speed as a result of building the box for the H6.

Hub cabs are round, just look funny with the dirt around the wheel nuts. They actually look really good except they have a big "T" in the middle.

She does know what i do to it, she's not fussed what i do because its my car ;) She just feels bad when she doe stuff like covering the car in a cloud of clutch smoke trying to do a hill start :p She wants her own car to do that sort of thing to! I'm not gonig to complain its a good excuse for a second Subie.

I've actually been eyeing up your MY subaruby i think the wagons are one of the best looking cars Subaru have made. I am a biased wagon man though.

Girlfriend is talking about taking it off road so she can join us on our trips. So i guess a 2" lift, maybe with no strut tops but 2" extended strut inserts. I think that will do it!

Thanks for clearing that up mate, i was getting a bit worried!

So i've had an annoying knock in the front end ever since i first took the car off-road nearly a year ago now. Finally took it to a suspension shop the other week and they pointed and pried at a few bushes that were doing sweet FA.

So i made a few whiteline purchases

Image

Also bought front and rear swaybar links. Fronts links went in, still waiting on buying an Outback swaybar to fit the rears.

So much play in this...

Cactus.

I stopped taking pictures because it started pissing down and i had to get everything finished so i could move the car. I live behind a shop so i can only work on my vehicle in the carpark when the owner isn't at work. PIA.

The anti-lift/caster kit actually improved the turning circle because they moved the tyres away from were they were fouling inside the wheel well. Interestingly it also stopped my vehicle pulling left at the slightest hint of road camber. So anyone with that annoying pull left should consider checking these bushes.

Alignment to come after I need to replace the steering rack boots. Will post a comparison of before/after the antilift caster kit.

Cheers,
Rhys

did you release the control arm bushes when the new taller suspension went in? Thats most likely why they are torn

always a good idea to back off the nut on these, install new suspension, then nip the nut up with the car on the ground.

I bought a full 99 WRX brake set from Rexnet a couple of days ago which included new front rotors and pads. So yesterday the front 277mm rotors + 2pots were swapped out for 297mm rotors and 4 pots, and the rears have been upgraded from solid to vented rotors. The one man bleed-o-matic brake kit I bought like 6 months ago worked a treat. Rear sway bar is also back in (was taken out many moons ago when i put the lift in) with whiteline end links.

I can't find a camera, but hopefully i can put some pics up soon. 4 pots fit behind the outback wheels with about a bee's proverbial clearance.

Here's a vid of the H6 at the Alpine National Park on our trip with the Subaru 4WD club of Vic. My car was the only one to get up this particular climb in 1 go (including a Landcruiser) and i didn't even have low range :D
