All EFI vehicle have some system of monitoring high impact engine vibration.

Clearly not come across the EA82 MPFI anchor? I think they forgot to add that sensor for some reason... Mine, while I had it, ran pretty well without it, but subaru must have thought that it was important on the turbo MPFI EA82, along with all the other subaru's produced since then

Christ, thats pretty dodgy hey!
IF you have no knock sensor, how does the computer learn its limits.
im guessing maybe an ambient air pressure sensor, (this is a MAF sensored engine isnt it?)
