it is like the age old joke about Marble Bar
the old drover from Marble Bar dies and goes to hell, he gets an Audience with Lucifer and asks for blankets because he is cold at night in bed.
We must remember Sydney is a lot like San Francisco...
LOL I tried to get a current weather forcast for Marble Bar and the government body associated with keeping records had this to say
check the weather for January 2011
http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/dwo/20110 ... 1101.shtml
for the month the lowest day time temp was 35.5 C mmmmm toasty

I would say everything has melted. No observations were reported from Marble Bar in the last 72 hours.

We live in a hot country, the hottest its been outside our house has been 37deg in the shade. Im sure its been over 40 in previous years.
As for aircons, we had ours running on sunday, but we set it for 28deg. It takes the edge off the heat, but uses a shit load less power. Ive been to a lot of places where the aircon is set to 18deg. Thats a big ask to drop 20deg from the air.

Peh a week over 35 is nothing special, in March 09 here in Adelaide we had about 16 days (?) above 35
I think the only town/city to have a longer heat wave was Marble bar wasn't it? don't quote me on that though:o

Will it ever end!?

But that's ok to winge olddog! NOT. People need to harden up and stop blaming something else for their discomfort - AC has not been around for that long really, I never heard my pero's complain about the heat as they didn't grow up with AC to cool things. Mum and Dad even remember the ice block fridges! Old school!olddog642 wrote:Bugger it sounds like every one is going soft.
I think a lot of people believe that they can dress in expensive clothing, drive expensive cars and live expensive lives like those from other places overseas then expect everything else to be the same as said place overseas including the weather...
Like the saying adopted one the kokoda track when ever anyone complained: Its better than being shot at. Harsh, but true. No disrespect to the diggers either - it was meant as a reminder of how hard they really had it!
Harden up Australia, we're a hot country with a harsh non-forgiving climate. Start looking after the country and not your petty "ME ME ME" lives and you might appreciate what you've got a little more.
As for the media: I'm amazed at how the Herald Sun managed to get front page photos of the Yasi devastation even though it passed overnight AND the papers were printed/circulated at the same time... Me thinks its not the devastation from cyclone Yasi that was portrayed on that front page. Shame shame shame!
I'll end the rant here, otherwise a packed lunch may be needed.
Personally I LOVE the heat! 42 in Lakes the early last week, 1st big bush fire started that day, 11 thousand and something hectares burnt out since then but is under control!
Cheers
Bennie
You're right there El Freddo this is a great country I still drive with my window down summer and winter when it rains I wind it up a little. If you close the windows and turn the wireless up loud you tend to miss a lot that nature has to offer.
Thats my rant over back under the rock I go

Absolutely agree Hylton
I deliberately go out in extreme weather to experience Australia at it's very best

That's living I reckon.
Coming to join you under that rock Hylton, at least until it cools down abit

Side note:
I love it when a dust storm rolls through Sydney and it's all over the media ,we get 'em dozens of times a year here

Love this country !
