Bennie, your figures confuse me. I do recall in NSW 1990, Super was 69.9 cpl and LPG 32.4, then when Saddam dropped his bomb about Aug 1990 petrol started to climb towards 89.9 cpl and LPG actually dropped to 23 to encourage a few more conversions, then one Australia Day, AMPOL who had the dearest prices at the time halved their LPG price just for the day - to 19 cpl. Made sure I topped up and went for a good long cruise that day. Vic has always had cheaper LPG

Sorry Jonno, I should have been more precise - 59 cents for petrol (super :D) and 12 cpl for LPG. That was 18 years ago!

It was just as economical to run dad's 308 WB statesmen on gas as it was to run mum's 900cc mini on petrol!!

Cheers

That reminded me, my dad used to drive a moke (he traded it in to buy the MY wagon I now own :p) and he said it used to cost him $2 to fill it up :???:

Also, not too long ago (2004) we went on a camping trip from Adelaide to great ocean rd. By the time we got to Mt. Gambier dad was shaking his head in disbelief that he'd actually spent $50 on petrol in one day :-D
Will it ever end!?

Only $50 in one day?! Lucky fella! I've spend a load more on fuel in one day than that - but admittedly I traveled a lot further too...

When I first started driving in 1988 I remember filling with petrol at 57.7 cents per litre. A few years later my Honda Civic only needed $10 and I could drive it for 2 weeks! Of course I used to drive non-stop back then...

At the same time my favorite brand of iced coffee was $0.75 for 600ml. Today, petrol (premium) is around $1.50 and the iced coffee is $3.50 for 500ml.

Petrol (in Au at least) is relatively cheap, still cheaper per litre than coke or water...

Yes, but if we drank as much Coke as our cars did, We wouldn't be here for long, and if we drank as much a water our cars do, we would drown ourselves... or some people like me. (It's a safety measure that petrol is cheaper than those two items)
