Tacho's

Post by redrover » Sat Mar 19, 2011 5:34 pm

Can you use the tacho/ speedo unit from a fuel injected EA82 L series
and stick it in a Carbie EA82 L Series without too much stuffing around?

Thanks

i would imagine this would be a bolt in affair (no modifications) as both vehicles have a coil and usually the taco takes it's siginal from the negative side.

It is not that simple as the wiring is different so not a direct 'plug and play'.

^ Correct. It bolts in ok but the two plugs on top of the cluster are wired differently but wouldn't be hard to sort out or make an adaptor wiring loom to fit it in without hacking the original wiring. Then there's the two round plugs on the back of the dashboard about level with the centre line of the cluster. These are also wired differently and I believe you would have to pick out each wire from the plugs carefully then re-insert them where they need to be...

But it is possible to do it - and the result is much better than the standard DL instrument cluster! I cheated and replaced my entire wiring loom with one from a touring wagon so I could run the MPFI as well. Not really worth it if you don't like a lot of work but I was happy with both the cluster and the MPFI at that point in time. I've still got the cluster, just not the EA82 ;)

Cheers
