wa laws regarding paint jobs

does anyone know what the laws are in W.A for painting cars. Im asking because my l series has a bit of cancer on the bonnet and bootlid and needs to be resprayed but im thinking of doing the whole car in an army style green camo or sand camo but dnt know if legally i can.

There are two Hilux's driving around here with camo paint jobs so I guess its legal in WA.

Theres a Hatchback Torana driving around in Perth with a supercharged V8 mid mounted where the rear seats should be - so I guess thats legal in WA too ??

IMO there would be only 3 things that would make a paint job illegal - copy of a WA Police car, reflective paint (chrome/mirror finish) or offensive images/words. But I could be wrong.

Agree there, have not heard of any rules in Australia regarding paint.

If Chameleon is legal in WA, then you'll be safe with any "normal" colour.

The ruling for WA is the car must be painted in one of the colours it was shipped to the show room floor in (from the factory) and no less than 80% is to be of that colour.

But I have never seen it enforced apart from when we painted an old 4 door valiant in the blues brothers scheme and even put police motto's on the car the young police officer wasn't amused with the slogan "To undermine and pervert"

Yep thats what the nice policeman said as he gave us a warning slip and requested we either spray the car black or white not both.

Having said that my old wagon was yellow with green and red camo

Ive heard the same thing from a spraypainter around the same time (it was a long time ago)

I don't believe the police and I believe TV, newspapaers and the internet even less

many years ago a guy in w.a. chromed the body on his FJ. the cops put it off the road as being too distracting and reflective.
seeing the paint jobs around I would be surprised if what toonga says was right.a guy I know painted one side of his
Ford green the other side black. he reckoned that was to confuse witnesses, one guy would say it was black another would say it was green.
not sure how that ended up.

I know in vic that you need to have the rego authority (vicroads in our case) notified of the change and the vehicle presented, appropriate paperwork filled out and you should be good to go.

How often that happens is beyond me!

I've seen cars over here with that very metallic paint job that looks like glitter in the paint - pretty awesome!

I wonder how harlequin passes the 80% rule

thats why they have/had the law, if it is enforced or not I have NFI, I was told that was the law

It really isn't taken to the "letter of the law" when cars are painted in multiple colours.. you just need to make sure it's not offensive or too glarey. This is evident of the amount of "Wicked" vans you see out and about. I would however suggest you not paint the car in Australian Defense colours but more like the US colours.. say like the Desert Storm colours. This also brings to mind the paint job I saw on one of Guyph's friends Hilux.. it was bloody awesome (have you got pics Guy?)

All done buy a French artist with spray cans covered with clear.

That car is a daily driver and never got pulled over for the paint job, its been 2 years now.
