Ok, to remove the springs from the L shock you need to have the spring compressed enough so that there is no compression on the "top hat" of the spring.
Then use a shifter to hold the flat part at the top of the shock's rod above the thread. Then get your appropriately sized spanner or ring spanner and go from there. This is how it worked for me.
If it's the honda strut, do the same to the spring in terms of compression. You need a hex or allen key for the top of the strut's rod to hold it still. Again use an appropriately sized spanner or ring spanner and you should be in business.
Cheers

You have a spring compressor in place i trust!thelman wrote:ok, so today i went to put the honda springs in the back of rupert. Trouble is, i cant get the nuts off the top. The shock is turning when i turn the nut. Ive tried all i can think of and no dice. Anyone got any ideas?
Use strap wrench on the piston, even an old leather belt will do.
If you must multigrips, be sure to grip the shaft well above the travel range, or you will chop out the seals

yeh they where pretty knacked when they come out of the ford and i had my doubts to, but they are the same diamater give or take an mil or two and had a cpl of spare hrs so thought why not....they are stiff but there no where near as stiff as you would think. iv been up the bush for a run with them and im very happy with the way it went on the day. i was with guys with lifted landcruisers and patrols and as always the subie showed em up....steptoe wrote:Falcon 'ell EA springs!!
