restore shine to alloy after strong degreasercastin

Post by steptoe » Sun Jul 10, 2011 9:02 am

Can it be doen? A mate has warned me the degreaser I am about to use inside my intake to dissolve the carbon crap clinging to the sand cast texture can or does remove alloys nice siver sheen and dulls it, seen it before many times after a detailer has cleaned up for used car yards etc then use silicone spray all over to hide stuff

it can be done but the alloy will need to be buffed/polished again, I cant remember the name of the buffing compound but I do know it is specifically for aluminium.

I should have added rough cast exterior too! There probably is some nasty chemical to reverse the look. I got away with cleaning out the insides with this 'degreaser' that can be watered down 20:1, 50:1 or 100:1 depending on the use. Neat, it dissolves the carbon build up inside inlet manifolds , rocker shafts etc, actually left a shine inside :) :)

Mothers Mag & Aluminium Polish.
Use this and some "elbow grease" (or buffing wheel) = lots of shiny alloy
Any motor spares (Auto 1, Repco etc) will have it

autosol is good, but 2k is better.

work for a 4x4 shop and polish a lot of ally bars

brasso and a high speed buff works well and 2k with a slow speed buff is very good too
