youll need to trim the guards...not sure if theyre available in australia either.

There are a few Maxxis tyres I'm very much interested in getting and I've investigated a fair bit to try and get some too. These buckshot Mudders (along with the other all-terrains and muddies) are commonplace in the larger sizes but the exclusive importers of Maxxis, Bob Jane, won't import them in the 27" size.

Not one to give up, I've found a tyre shop that sells those that are hard to get and they've left me a message the other day saying that they can "get what I want". Which one they can get I'm yet to ring back and find out.

Personally, I like the look and spec's of them. I also like the look of the Hankook Dynamic mudders. Just a matter of finding a supplier and best price.

trimming gaurds isnt hard is it??? will these tyres cause any drivtrain damage like blown gearbox or more frequent c.v changes??? dont want to make my subi unreliable like the hilux was....
couldn see it bein a problem as the tyres i have now are about 24" so its not that much bigger...

I've been on the phone again for my own shopping and the Buckshot Mudders (MT 754) ARE NOT available in OZ. However, the 751 (more a road going all terrain only available as a 185R14) and the 753 (a less aggressive than the Buckshot muddie) ARE available. The 753 is only available as a 185R14 (will come in around $115) OR a 195R14 (quoted at $130) though and not a 27x8.5 that I'm after. He's getting back to me about the Hankooks MT RT01 in a 27" (somewhere over $200). With Kumhos (27") around $165, Nankang (27") at around $115. If I was happy to spend over $200 a tyre then I could look at the BFG's or Coopers (if they still make the STT's in a 27 I might consider them...

Anyone around Sydney found better prices or availability than this?

As for trimming your front guards. I'm thinking this one through like so many others here too. The theory is simple, however, I'm not quite as confident to cut away at the fender as some have. If you stick with the 185 or even a 195 all should be fine. It's only when going to the 27's that trimming is needed. Any experienced fender benders/cutters are welcome to cut in here (sorry for the pun).

As for less reliablility... not an issue for me so far. 45000 k's on the tyre with only one change of CV's on the front. I think the slight height increase from the stiffer springs contribute as much to the lessened CV life. I'm not complaining when you can replace them for new ones off e-bay for $120 each and slot them in yourself.

Hey mate,

I have the 195r14 753 on my L and I have a 3" inch lift kit and the fronts scrub when at full lock going up gradients and the rears scrub when traveling on fairly rough roads and its worse with weight. I looked at 27's but the 195's seem to just about everything i can throw at it and more. I hate to think how much more the 27's would scrub let alone with only 2" lift. Thats my piece any way.

worth cuttin guards for shure 2inch ilft running 30'' cooper stt's gained heaps of capibility off road while keeping center of gravity down

man 30" with 2 inch lift and cut gaurds.... cool.... did you have to take much out??? had any dramas with gearboxs from the bigger tyres??
is it a 4 or 5 speed??

no dramas with gearbox 5spd 3.9 visc lsd but need ej to run bigger tyres and still hammers along cut and masaged (lol) with bfg about 3inches all round

Cutting guards on the L will be easy to do on the front, but the rear will be a bit of a challenge since the rear door will be in the way, unlike the brumby that can be cut right back to the inner mud guards...

Sorry to be negative about it but i don't see a way around it...

I just put 27 x 8.5 x 14 maxxis 751 all terain on my 3 inch lifted L series and had to cut front and back of the gaurds to stop by new tyres getting chopped up.

So all you panel beaters out there, got any pics of the best way and place to trim the front (and maybe rear) guards ?

Also got a weird knock seems to be in the air cond compressor at idle after fitting the lift. Goes away once I move.

I run 185/80/14 maxxis bravo 753's on my stock height L series. With the peugeot rims i had they didnt scrub at all but now i have king sunraysias with a wider offset, it scrubs out a bit on larger bumps (mainly on the front)
They cost me $150 each and they are a great tyre.

i'm running the maxxis buckshots on my brumby 27x8.5s with a 3in lift on the front and 2in lift on the back, had to trim the front guards slightly and only rubbed on full lock, with a bent radial rod the drivers side rubs alot more but that is onlydue to the bent arm, tyre are great

Matt makes a good point. The offset in the rims will have alot to do with how well they fit. The more offset the rims have the more you will have to cut. Its worth taking into account with everyone giving opinions on how well x size tyres fit with x size lift.

If you get factory offset 14's with 27" tyres and a 2" lift they should fit with no cutting. That's mention in a number of tyre/rim threads on the boards. They're rare though and you probably won't find any unless your name is Bennie. You could go another way like Phizinza did and have no lift and just trim your gaurds untill 27" tyres fit.

So 27" seems to be the number when it comes to L's & Brumby's, any particular reason or is it pure wank factor, they must throw the speedo & gearing out to buggery, surely 26" would be a more convenient size to find and 1/2" won't make that much difference or is it something to do with offroad sizes. last offroad's I ran were 35"X 12.5.

Its the smallest size most people can buy these days with a decient tread. I have 27's on my car they rub a little bit but they just go through everything.
