My 03 Outback!

G'day guys

Thought i would post up some info about my newish Subaru.

Bought it around 3 months ago and am loving it so far!
It came with the nudge bar, roofracks and the dark tint.

List of Mods i have done:

Raised King springs
2.5" catback exhaust
145 Roo Lites
Subaru stickers
Uniden 1din UHF
Pioneer headunit
Subaxtreme sump guard

Mods to come:

2" body lift
Larger tyres (see my tyre tread, need some advice haha)
Custom rear bar with wheel carrier
Custom bullbar
New reversing light (cant see the stock ones through the tint)

Anyway heres some pics

Excited to come on some 4wd'ing trips in the near future.

Nice mate. One of my Mates here (still a Learner) has an 03 outback same as yours. Not a bad car but I do prefer my forester.

More lift! more lift! haha and some big tyres. BFG's?

Hey guys

Haven't updated this in a while.
Here's some pics of what i have done.

Built a custom air intake as i was worried about water splashing up into the stock one on the front of the car.

Finally finished installing my 2" body lift

Getting some 215/70 Yokohama ATs put on it today.

Next to come is to try and do the L series low range conversion.
I don't think i will be able to do it myself as it looks a little bit over my head. So time to talk to some mechanics.
I have a feeling it will cost a lot to get someone else to do it though.
Maybe if i get an L series gearbox and a 03 OB i can tinker away at it. At least my car wont be off the road then.

Anyways i will try and post some pics of my tyres tomorrow.

There's plenty of threads about doing this modification. Here's a great low range swap write up done recently by Phizinza - if you got the required parts machined prior to pulling your gearbox you should knock it over in no time as it would be a simple swap of the various parts at that stage...

Then "slap it all back together and be done with it - enjoy!

Another mod you might want to look into is adding two tabs above each of the low range gears and either screw in a set of "barbed" pipe end with a threaded section on the other like this:

Then you need an electric pump that can move oil, tap a hole in the rear of the gearbox, put another unit like the above in there, then plumb in the oil pump then a T piece off to each pronged unit above the Low range gears. This will allow you to flick a switch in the cab to use the oil pump to lubricate the low range gears on long or steep hill climbs.

I'm going to be doing this with my next gearbox and should have done it with my current one - it whines on accents especially long ones! Not good.

Thanks to everyone who gave me advice on my tyre tread

Its pretty close at the back here. I have noticed some rubbing every once in a while. Maybe when i get an alignment on Tuesday it will fix it?
If not should i cut that piece of plastic that sticks out or just leave it?

Now i really need a rear bar with wheel carrier. Spare is just sitting in the boot haha

Awesome. They look great with your lift!!! I have done just over 10,000km on my Geolander AT-S tyres (215/70R15)

Hey Magoo, got some new rear springs coming? The rear looks a bit saggy.

Venom got some good springs from King Springs in the back of his Liberty, check out his build thread as I'm sure he's got the part numbers in there, or PM him...

When's the snorkel coming with the rest of that intake already done??

I have put in a set of raised king springs already.
Was one of the first things i did.

Would love a snorkel but they are a bit expensive.

I think i might get a roof basket so i can chuck my spare up there. And it gives me a place to mount a reversing light.
Getting this rear bar might take quite a while.
How much will do you think it affect fuel consumption?

Went out to cobaw yesterday with a couple of my mates (who are also Subaru owners). Very happy with the tyres.

Fuel consumption is going to suffer with anything on the roof! It might not be much but you will notice it initially. Head winds will add to the fuel usage. I don't see the rear bar affecting fuel economy, I don't think mine has in the aerodynamic department, but in the weight side of things I'm sure this will have a small effect on travelling up hills... maybe.

I'm pretty sure they're the same tyre choice that Venom's running - they go well and he too is very happy with their performance on and off road.

You didn't happen to stumble across a little black nokia mobile phone while you were up there did you?? I lost mine last time I was up there in June

Replaced of course but if I could find it I would like all of my old numbers back! *Dreaming!*

Hey guys,
Havent been on the forums in ages.
Heres some updates on my car.

(fake) Rhino Aluminum roof cage
Bought it from a shop in Campbellfield for less than half the price of a real "Rhino" one. Its great all the rhino accessories fit on it perfectly.

Put my spare up there as well as adding a shovel holder.
On the other side i may make a big PVC pipe water tank or look at getting some kind of awning.

Having the spare on the roof freed up all this space in the wheel well.
Filled it with important stuff

Ran some 6 B&S cable from the battery to a fuse box and bus bar here at the back.

Mounted my air compressor in the side compartment.

Soon to install a reverse light on the rear of the roof cage.
Still on the lookout for a second hand SubaXtreme bullbar (cant afford a new one)
May be getting a snorkel for xmas

Still want to do the L series low range conversion. Just havent gotten around to looking for a gearbox.

all looks really good mate.

Just be VERY careful with that compressor. They get very hot...fuel filler side of the car...fire...etc etc etc.

Don't give up. I lost one back in the day on a climbing trip. After going back up and searching the crag a couple of times I found it by chance in the middle of the road. First time up the track we'd stopped and got out to look a rough bi before tackling it in the liberty, but then of course we didn't need to stop there on subsequent trips....

On topic - nice outback.
