L series Air Conditioning.

Post by hsronline » Wed Sep 14, 2011 4:03 pm

Hi all, looking to put air con in my trusty L sereis 88 model. U pullit have them for $169, is there anything I need to know before i retro fit it into mine. I am unable to find any info in the workshop manuals or the gregorys book I have.
Any info would be great, would like to know if ny extra wiring is needed or any pics anyone has of their undermount unit etc. Thanks in advance.

Are you modifying the dash or putting in a whole new dash?

No photos sorry but i did have an aftermarket A/C underdash unit in a Cortina. Is this what you mean? It worked fine, was my 1st car with A/C :D
Didnt need any dash modification, just sat under the dash...hence the name underdash A/C lol

Does take a bit of room from passenger but wasnt too bad. Then again how often will u be a passenger?

I think maybe he was going to pull the entire A/C system out of an L series at U-pull it and put it in his.
Will it ever end!?

You will need the condensor radiator from out front, the AC compressor, all the pipes, the under dash air box, the wiring loom, and the instrument cluster surround as the non-AC unit is slightly different from memory. You'll also need the "re-circulation AC" button as the non AC re-cerc button doesn't have the AC switch built into it.

I think that's about all you need.

Cheers

All done and working great, exept I forgot to grab two relays from upullit. No drama as mate who is auto electrician said he will rig a couple up for me. I am now cool in summer. Also fixed the leaking rocker cover bolts. Extra washer did the trick. Started out to just give the car a clean up to sell it, but now will keep it for a few more years. Just love the old L series.

Now, when you switch it on , you will feel like a force from above (alien life form) has taken possession of your motorvation until you get used to it. My L Sedan suddenly felt like it was turboed once I switched AC off, actually it was turbo just didn't feel like it with AC on. I chose to sweat :)
