Be Aware ( Dont fall victim )
Be Aware ( Dont fall victim )
2 weeks ago i had my Brumby gearstick slop in for repair, i took it to a Wrecker in Para Hills to have them do the job ( as i had little knowledge of the procedure ) , i was quoted $125 to do the job.
On the morning in question that i delivered the car , they took my ute around the back of the premisis, whilst i was told i could not access the rear to watch the job.
30 minutes later they brought the car back around the front for me , and although i could feel a change in the slop , it was still pretty dismal and sloppy. But i wasnt to know any different as this is my first Subaru.
Anyway, had it up on a hoist today and low and behold their is NO NEW parts , bushes or materials in the selector , the only noticable change is the selector " Knuckle " pivot point has had the bolt tightened to all buggary ( so much so it no longer resembles the " C " shape!!!!
These so called " Experts" charged me $125 for a monkey to tighten the 12 mm bolt, and happily took my hard earned money!
I did in fact contact them to discuss the problem ( to give them a chance Before i exposed them ) and was told , "you paid for a service and thats what you got ".... No sorry, or , we'd be happy to refund some of the money, or, allow us to fix the problem.....
I am writing this as it is bad practice, for Business's to blatenly treat people this way with such disrespect, and if i can stop another unsuspecting victim, from being treated like this , then im happy!
im sure some of you have bought parts from this place, and no doubt you were happy with the outcome, but have you actually had anything fixed ( or what they deem fixed ) ? I relly dont care , if this place is your mate, your uncle, your father, or next door neighbour, Ripping off people is not on !
So now they can REAP what the SEW!!!!!!!

Unfortunately you're right, there are many many dodgy bastards out there who will rip you off knowing theres not much you can do, except expose em.Luke82 wrote:this is why i dont use mechanics for anything i do all my own work, not all of them are dodgy but there are alot that are. i have a collection of horror stories.
Best thing is just what you're doing...finding out from others on this forum who to go to, who is reputable & can be trusted.
I hope you get it fixed by a decent mechanic...yes some mechanics are actually decent honest blokes who do a good job. Ya just gotta find em lol

Ok Sven, I'll take it to Steve finally
Says they do loan cars as well so I may not need to wait for dad to have a day off for a lift home...yippee!
Back to the topic, anyone take their Subies to the dealership garage at Glenelg? Dad has only ever had our cars serviced and repaired there, but says he wants to find somewhere else because they can be so expensive. No doubt they do a good job though.

Silverbullet, I can go close to recommending Sams Garage , not far from your dads place at all
He shows determination and nerves of steel at times and won't give you your car back until he is happy with it. If he doesn't know something , he is not afraid to say so, will (eventually) find out, and let you know if he made an error

Eblens are great but they are very expensive. Any gebuine subaru mechanic is though. If you have a performance vehicle try S&J Autos at edwardstown. Where is sams garage?

Yes do itmud_king91 wrote:Might start my own workshop when i finish my apprenticeship and do all other certs required

But be aware owning your own business is guaranteed to make you lose sleep AND hair! Esp in the cut-throat world of mechanics

Isnt it great to see all the advice coming forward...
