Heavy duty Clutches
Heavy duty Clutches
Hi am new to the site and am currently in the prosess of converting my l series to an ej20.
Just wondering if any one knows what the best heavy duty clutch to run is
Cheers Rowan

I am looking for an answer to this aswell, but mine is to go behind an EJ22.
exedy look good, but they dont seem to do any HD clutches for the EA82 gearbox. but it looks like these are the same clutches that go behind the EA turbos, so i guess they should be ok with an NA EJ??
exedy part number FJK-6351
what have others with ej conversions done?
Robbie

Dont go to heavy duty as if it is to strong you are more likely to blow the gearbox! Im sure you would prefer to wearout your clutch and buy a new one rather than a gearbox?

I use an exedy hd clutch on my 92 liberty off roader with the l-series lo range i it i find it great
It has a very slight shudder on takeoff i was told it would when i got it so i'm not worried about it
It is different at first but you get used to it and the best thing it's lighter on the foot too
I don't dump the clutch on tar (dirt yes) but i do respect the clutch tho with a bit of care you won't blow the gearbox my 2cents

as a side note guys, the actual clutch disc is the same for liberties and l-series. I was using a liberty disc with the standard l-series pressure plate and it worked okay or a while (ej22) but i burnt it out whilst trying to recover a car in extremely soft sand.
most custom clutch shops can beaf up a standard l-series pressure plate to cope with afew extra kws.
for my turbo motor i had this made

I just have a completely standard brand spanking L series clutch to go in. do you think that will be fine, or will it need a bit of beefing up a bit to not slip?
if a liberty and L series disk are the same it shouldn't matter which one i have anyway hey?
it will be a few more weeks before i can start the work anyway, but getting close

I mean the same as in the splines to go onto the input shaft.
