CD player in a Brumby (can someone move this to the right section please)
CD player in a Brumby (can someone move this to the right section please)
Just thought I would share.
We all know the Brumby console does not lend itself to CD player mounting.
I have a spare dash/console so decided to start haching away at it and left shouldering the ash tray.
Then cut a plate out of G10 fiberglass on my mill, dust coat of black paint and screwed it to the front of the console. Then made up some brackets to bolt the CD player to the G10. I had some 2mm Carbon Fiber sheet which would have looked realy cool, but I am getting low on small slot drills and CF is realy hard on them so figured G10 will do.
6" and 4" planed for the doors.
Hope I have inspired ya!

OK . Just in from running cables, Cutting holes, soldering connections and working out which wire goes where. (No smoke either)
Have to cut some 4mm spaces so the speakers will sit flat on the door lining, Might use masonite and will cut them on the band saw at work tomorrow.
Far out it is time consuming.

How thick is G10 ? 10mm ? I did similar with old jigsw and files etc with a bit of 16mm craftwood, and chose a sample pot of a grey similar to the interior. The paint staff (where samples are always free
) couldn't understand my obsession to get a grey just right.
Was also impressd to find there was one brand at some stage that made a shallow CD player, needed no cut out at the back from the heater ducting or a spacer plate up.
With a five speed fitted changing CDs can be a little trouble when cruising in 5th

When I replace my stereo I'm just going to get one of those that doesn't have a CD player. Just USB, Aux in and SD card slots. They are much shallower I think I might just get away with not cutting anything. Plus I don't have any CD's
That looks great btw revmax, almost like it's supposed to be there

Steptoe the G10 is 1.6mm thick.
G10 is considered pore mans carbon as it is OMG strong and cheap compared to Cabon Fiber.
SB I thought similar but have the JVC player left from my L series so thought I may as well use it in the Brumby.
Should have it all fitted up tonight

OK all sorted (Finally)
6.5 " and 4" in the doors.
With advice from me mate who workes at GEM Auto in Coffs and budget I had. Ended up getting JVC 6.5" with 16mm spacers and Alpine 4" no spacers but had to make uo a "C" type backing plate for the 4" speakers.
Sounds Ok but need to add sound dedening material, but I will save this for the replacement doors I have stripped ready for painting.
