Liberty 3.6 VS Lexus 460

Hi

First time on the forum so hello to all.

I am looking at getting the new Liberty sedan 3.6.

What are your comments when compared to a second Lexus LS 460?

Is the Liberty quite and power like the Lexus?

Hi and Welcome hipsubcat

Firstly, the Liberty is an awesome choise and one you'd be very happy with if purchased. They use a little more fuel that the average midsized car due to the safety featured AWD system, so hard to compare to others. As for the Lexus models, I have no idea and really would think too many people on a Subaru forum would get too involved in them but I'm guessing that because Lexus is the higher class of Toyota, then you're comparing apples with pears.

Lexus is a V8, Libbo is a 6, with Dual AVCS and easily tuned and AWD and awesome

probably cheeper?

I would consider it a luxury car, its got the power of the 3.6 H6 auto, leather, sporty looks and ride. Its a business mans car. Proably the most luxury Subaru you could get

The Liberty 3.6 is high quality car and very well priced for the extra features that comes with the car. It's available in 2 variants and the lower price one falls below the luxury tax (from memory) but you can't really compare it against a $100,000 car (IMO). Take one for a test drive and see what you think of it. I would though put it close to the same range as the Toyota Camry V6 (not sure if they still do this one though).

Just checked the net and found they call the V6 camry "Aurion" so best to compare against this one, remembering that Subaru use AWD system so fuel figures might not come as close to the Toyota.

I'm with Taza and would agree that the 3.6R Liberty is a luxurious car compared to others in the Subaru range.

umm lexus is a rebadgedtoyota no real difference between them and isnt it kinda obvious everyone here is gonna say buy the lib... i owned a 98 GS300 i sold it 3 days later if that says anything

Have a good look at the new 2ltr diesel VW Passat, I am getting 1050 ks per 62 ltrs of fuel city driving. massively impressed with this car

The 460 is a completely different class than any Subaru - even the current model Liberty. The Liberty will be cheaper on fuel, will be faster as it's not carrying the weight of a 460, will handle better. But it's not a luxury car. Subaru is middle of the road with AWD as the differentiator from a Toyota / Honda / Mazda. It'll probably hold its value a bit better than those brands as there are less around so more demand.

Buy a copy of the "Dogs and Lemons Guide" from the newsagent. It has nearly every car you can think of in it with a write up and fuel consumption guide as well. I bought the wife a IS Lexus and it is the best car I've ever owned or driven and I've had plenty. It's even suprisingly good on fuel, in a few years time I'll be buying her another one. Its not 4WD like the two cars you mentioned though. Lexus have other smaller 4WD's in the RX series which would be cheaper to run than the 4.6. One of the good things about them is that the initial depreciation after a couple of years makes them more affordable and they have possibly been used for taking the kids to school and not much else. We're in a mini recession which would help the buyers price a bit at the moment in that car bracket. Can't comment on the newer Subaru as I havn't owned a newer one, the old Brumby was well made though, there are better options out there than a Subaru if you are going to use it for towing.

Buy a "Dogs and Lemons Guide" it should help a lot, read the write up on the manufacturers at the start of each chapter, The one on Mercedes Benz is worth a read.
