Getting the custom box built isn't going to cost as much as i thought, and the builder is going to set up the front LSD and rear diff with LSD too. I've heard the torsen type diffs don't work when a wheel leaves the ground so i'm not sure how usefull it's going to be off-road, guess i'll find out.

I'm going to convert back to a factory cable clutch as well.

Anyway i got some stuff from import monster and also been going a bit crazy with spray paint. Cars been off the road while i've hummed and harred about the gearbox and tried to sort out some other issues. New IACV went in, but i think my problem might be the TPS so i might get a new one of those too.

Projectors, although apparently they throw less light than stock? It'll do for now untill i put a HID kit in for the low beam.
Image

My ebay outback wheels looked shocking so i took to them with an angle grinder and a sanding wheel to get rid of the clear coat shit.
Image
Image
I used a hammertone paint for something different. The problem is the hammertone is really hard to get an even effect so each wheel is different. I went through 3 cans of paint to get it right and just gave up.
Image
Image
Image
Front brakes painted. I must be shit with spray paint because it took me so many attempts to get the front right i didn't even bother with the rear.

GTB rear wing.
Image

GTB seats. These things are awesome, i wasn't keen on WRX items or leather and these worked out well. Oh yea stitched centre console lid is in this pic too that i snuck out of the wreckers from a heritage sedan.
Image

New boot looks good!
Image

Also got a legacy shadow chrome grill but it's in worse condition than my stock one so i'm not sure what to do with that.

New leather gear stick boot arrived from in the mail last week sothat will go in soon as well.

I'm dropping my gearboxes, LSDs and rear diff off to the builder in melbourne next week. Should be a few weeks wait to get it back. The rear off the gearbox will be shorter so i'll have to get the front section of the tailshafts lengthened to suit.

I sourced a low km set of driveshafts to suit my rear LSD because trying to get the old set rebuilt turned out to be a real hassle. I'll probably get it done at some point, but i've got spares this way so that gives me time to work it out. It cost me half the price too.

Won the GT2 L series off Ebay last night with the digital dash. No idea what the **** i'm going to do with it, or how i'm going to get it home either. Too cool to pass up though.

Can't wait to see it up in the Little Desert!

Will you be getting a box from all drive suparoo? Their custom low range seems quite steep and really adds to the overall cost of the gearbox! You mentioned a place in melbourne though??

Cheers

Thanks guys. I saw a similar set of seats and a wing go on RSlib for less than what i paid, but they're not common. RFRB rear wings are nice too but you need to drill a hole for the wiring to go to the light.

I'm taking it to Rick who had the turbo L series on the rawson trip we did with the Vic 4WD suby club. Bratgeebah suggested getting the clutch and pressure plate from Jim Berry, but i've heard they're not cheap. Hopefully the low range is in for little desert.

Cheers,
Rhys

yeah i was eying this off on fleabay, wanted really to see how much it would go for as i just forked out all my savings on a new car. seeing as youve already got the lib, i think the GT2 should be slammed, front mounted and boosted within an inch if its life:twisted:

I hope you get it in by Little Desert, that'd be awesome! I too need to talk to Rick, just have to find his number to get the process started, I think my build is going to be a little more involved than yours, unless you're doing up the L AWD box like mine

Cheers

Ok so i've shit talked about my mythical dual range project for like 18 months, enough said about that so time for some pictures...

This is what happened to my clutch/flywheel/pressure plate after copping a H6 hiding with no low range for the past 18 months. Going with a new standard EJ22 pressure plate and clutch to make sure the new box doesn't break.

Image
Mmmmm, dual range.

Liberty shifter linkages with L linkage bush on the end. The liberty one fouls on the L series rear casing thats on this box.

Custom driveshaft/tailshaft. L series centre bearing carrier with two MY driveshafts cut down for new front and rear sections. Uni joints replaced with new greasable items.
Image
New gearbox is 62mm shorter, so the front driveshaft section had to be lengthened to suit.
Image

L series gearbox mounts fitted to the Liberty gearbox crossmember. Not perfect, will see how they hold up.

Servo's to operate the centre diff lock.

Linkages in placeImage
You can see the holes we used to screw a plate to the cut up linkages to hold them in place untill we got them to the bloke who made up my tailshaft. He Mig'd it for me for nothing and with 30 mins notice on a Saturday morning, good bloke!

Liberty shifter linkages fit perfectly snug inside L series linkage tube, which were used as the tubing to cover the extension.

Still got a few minor things to work out...

Currently in the process of plumping up the oil lines which will drip feed onto the low range gearset. They are plumed into a banjo bolt on the rear of the gearbox to a MY fuel pump in the engine bay and onto two barbs fittings welded onto the gearbox casing (just over the low range gearset). It's been a bit of hamfisted fabricating to mount the fuel pump. More pictures as things get done.

Very nice, great work. SO is that a std D/R Rx gearbox that you mount behind the H6 using an adapter plate or did you change the front Bell housing to an EJ one? Also what ratio is it? For the D/R cable, how did you mount it to the box?

The ultimate Suby drive line right there!!!

Thanks Guyph. The front section of the gearbox is Gen1 liberty dual range, so its bolted straight to the engine. The locking centre diff housing/rear section is from an import FT4WD L series gearbox. Because the front section is EJ it is using the standard EJ dual range selector cable and mounting. All works fine so far, only downside is the L series rear section makes the box alot shorter.

If anyone wanted more specific details on the how to's then i could put you onto my gearbox builder.

Cheers,
Rhys

I have been running this setup behind a version 4 STi in my Brumby now for 2 years, even towed my boat on a 6000k round trip up to the Gulf of Carpentaria with some 4wding and it held up well.

Don't worry mate, I've been talking about mine for longer than that! Hopefully I'll have it in Ruby Scoo soon, your gearbox build has inspired me to finally get my act together (with the help of my tax return) and get something going...

Now just to get home to get some things organised!

And I can't wait to head bush again with you and the new box! I'm really excited for you and the Liberty!!

Cheers

7 days of work and its finally done. Beer time.

MY fuel pump mounted on the gearbox, this is running the oil feed for the low range. Sort of in the way of the dipstick, but i can put oil in and check the dipstick easily enough.
Image

Here you can see where the oil feed goes into the gearbox for the low range.
Image

Rocket switches for centre diff lock and the oil pump. They look OK, mainly i needed to idiot proof it for the G/F if she takes the car.
Image

Dirty H6 PORN.
Image

The headlight wiring loom i put it a few weeks ago with 100/90W HOD halogens. Went back to stock headlights, the projectors were ****ing retarted without going HIDs and i want to keep it looking legal.
Image

I put a cargo barrier in a while ago. It left some space between the back of the seat and the barrier, perfect place for some noise machines. 4 channel for the speakers and a monoblock for the amp.
Image

10 inch JL sub and box, cost me $70 from the wreckers.
Image

Just a baby sub really, but good enough for me.
