Will enamel paint work over Sunraysia steel wheels?
My wheels are a bit rusty and since I will be buying new tyres soon,
I thought now is a good time to give the wheels a touch up.
Was thinking sanding/wire brushing and then some paint that's good over rusted surfaces.
I was warned at one store that their enamel paint will not stick if what you're painting already has acrylic paint on it.
Thoughts?

Yeah enamel works fine just make sure you prime them first after getting all the rust off them.

Use paint stripper to remove the paint. It will remove the primer and absolutely everything down to the steel no problem. Then make sure you prime the rims very well (use anti rust primer too) then your paint then its a good idea to do a lot of clear coat.

They don't bother me, how rusty they are. (10-20% outer surface area?) But if I have to sell it, I think it's silly to leave them "as is." Plus I would prefer newer looking wheels. I don't think they're worth a $60 blast and repaint (each) because that also means I can't drive my L Series for at least a day. I was hoping I could touch up the rust in my driveway. I just want them to look better than they do now, if it's easy.

$100 for what, exactly?taza wrote:Or $100 and paint all 4 yourself. Only takes a spare few hours on a weekend.

A price for local blast-and-repaint is $60/rim...
and that's probably assuming you already have the tyres off it.
I was just going to throw some paint on them, tyres still mounted,
as 3 of them will be scrapped when I buy my new tyres anyways.
(want to keep one as a spare tyre; 6 lbs lighter than my current spare)
