Would do it more often if i didnt need a WA after.

If I cant get no satisfaction from King Springs/ KYB then i might just have to put in standard springs in the front & keep the HDs in the rear...
Still having issues???

Unlucky. Dobinson springs all the way ;)

Do you have new shocks (KYB's) in the front too or just rear?

Front & rear. The rear are fine except for the fact i cant fit bigger tyres but its the front that has all the issues. Yeah maybe Dobinsons may have been a better choice but i really liked the yellow haha :p

mine do the same in the outback with raised kings.

when going over a smallish bump at semi speed, like down a square kerb etc it tops out the strut making a bang noise.

i thought the struts might be stuffed?

According to KYB tech dept they can top out a lot before damage occurs but...its a sound i dont wanna hear...or feel!

They said from their point of view the prob i'm having is no fault of the strut as its a direct OEM replacement & not meant for raised springs.

I then called King Springs & mentioned the incompatibility of the raised spring/ OEM strut combo...they're gonna get back to me but did mention that with all the raised springs they've sold for the forester this is the 1st prob they've had of this kind

He said they design their raised springs for a minimum of 40mm droop so they dont top out

nachaluva,

Did you end up finding the issue here?

I seem to have a similar problem after installing the new KYB struts. I also installed the lift kit at the same time.

When breaking on corrugations the knocking/hammering is horrendous.

Currently checking bushes, but any shortcuts would be most appreciated.

Cheers Brad.

Check for play in the strut top hat's bearing, I had the same problem and replaced the hat and the problem went away.

I have it again now but I'm 90% sure it's the control arm bushes in my case as they've been on the blink for a while.

I got the same in my Liberty
I think it's the struts topping out because the springs are stronger the standard So the springs are pushing the strut to the limit of the insert and that what's the clunk is.
My 2 cents

I also have a clonk in the front right strut of the Foz, but it is completely stock.

It clonks over rough ground/corrugations/potholes but as it is the Mrs's car, I haven't have a chance to have a good look.

i run my lifted springs on my standard struts with no issue, so they are commbatible.

Check the large bush on the lower control arm it's oil filled and they do break you will see oil around the bottom of it

I have raised springs with gen1 struts.

The really frustrating thing is most people dont have a problem with this combination...but some do :(

Just an update.

Have pulled the front trailing arms out.
Both rear bushes are stuffed, as was the driver's side ball joint.

The inner ones don't seem to bad.

Now in the process of getting the old bushes out.

Interestingly, the lift king springs have roughness top and bottom for the full length of the spring. I wonder if they have sagged and are fully compressing.
Will see once all the bushes are replaced.

Hey mate did you ever fix this?

My 03 Outback has developed a noisy clunk in the left rear.
I have a 2" body lift and raised king springs on standard shocks.
Has been fine for almost a year now.
I have checked it all over and re torqued everything but i cant find out the problem.

Pedders have told me i need new shocks (and quoted me a ridiculous price haha)
Just wondering if there if something else i can check before i buy new shocks and install them

get some one to jump up and down in the boot while you look at the shock travels from outside with the protector boot pushed out of the way, you will be able to see if it travelling smoothly or not. if not need new shock.
