4Gen Outback Aux input.

Post by Narna » Tue Dec 20, 2011 8:48 pm

I'm guessing this is an common question but...

I have recently aquired a shiny 2004 Outback Premium (not sure if MY04/MY05). It has a 6 stack CD player stereo in the console which does not have AUX setting but does have a seemingly useless CHR option for an extra CD changer! Can this be converted/fooled into being an AUX input?

If not what would be my best option for MP3 player connectivity?

Welcolm Narna,
Hmmm not sure what you mean by the chr and what it does.
Some pictures would really help! :)

this site http://ae64.com/ has links to quite a few different ways of hooking up an MP3 player. You will need to do some reading of threads (there are quite a few)

your other option is something like this http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Car-MP3-Play ... 2a0ae355d6 that uses a small FM modulator to send the mp3 player signal to your radio.

Good luck with it all.

its pretty much un-doable without fudging an auxillary into the circuitry..(ive heard of it being done) big job tho i think and not worthwhile.

some of the fm modulators are good these days, some are crap. I got a belkin one for about $90 which worked really well before i swapped out the headunit to one with everything.

Very do-able
You will need one of these to suit the stock subaru deck.

Fm modulators are shit too.

i thought about this with my mcintosh system on my gen4 and read alot about puting a clarion plug in the back but after reading of it killing the headunit i was not to keen to risk. the fm transmitters are ok but can get some interferance and more expensive one doesnt nessisalry mean its guna work beta. best thing iv seen but have not tryed was from repco it links inbetween ur antenna input at the back of the headunit i belive as a direct fm signal so u dont get interferance may be an option think it was around $100

Hey Bungers what was it you were refering to?
I'm not afraid to get my hand dirty (was an electronics tech in a previous life) although I am a bit scared of denting the immaculate console! Hey I've only had the beast a week or so - dont want to break something just yet :)

Gen4 series 2 you can as it has an auxiliary.

Gen4 Series1 you can't easily.
