Well I bought my kid a PS3 for Xmas and I got sick of playing on real cars and getting nowhere so today I thought I should put my time to good use and knocked up this :

and played GT5 on this :

not the best photo but at least you can see the size of the screen

Steering wheel and pedals slide independently in and out to adjust for reach and the steering wheel has 2 heights available - the second one is 60mm lower than the photo.

So it will pull apart in 10 secs and be easily stowed away.

Gonna build a second one next week so I can teach the kid a thing or two. Actually the little brat will probably kick my butt. It doesn't matter how good I can drive a real car I just can't get the hang of virtual ones

Yeah I would love one of those - be bloody expensive I imagine.

I go to Sim World in Carousel shopping centre (in Perth) where they have something very similar. It is pretty good and very tiring but still isn't anywhere near the real thing.

Off-topic but I used to work for Ansett many years ago and managed score an hour in their flight simulator. Now that was realistic - so much so that I nearly threw up when we did a really quick manouevre and honestly thought I was going to die when we crashed. We had been flying for about 50mins and I had forgot I was in a simulator and I was flying on instruments and when I looked up we were about 50ft from the ground and heading straight for it - talk about adrenalin rush.

I was just about to say someone should make something exactly like that sim but for Aircraft games, some of the WWII combat sims would be amazing if you had your own 2 axis simulator

Great setup, but I can see why kids can't keep their cars on the road these days, it looks like there's a gear shifter (manual of course) but only two foot pedals!!!

So I guess the subi gets neglected for a while now?

Projector image looks a lot worse than what it really is. But I have a plan to fix that anyway - buying a new 3D projector that is much brighter and better for gaming and movies - and only $800

it costs around 25K euro. +/- couple of hundreds. That's GST, transport (from EU) and service fees excluded.

I reckon buying a car and going to a racetrack is cheaper

... but this unit is not for home entertainment I reckon. it's more for driving simulation, no one gets hurt, possible lots of real racing tracks can be uploaded. I imagine it sitting in the shopping malls for entertainment, in driving schools possibly, at race tracks for the track drive simulation.
To someone the moves can appear weird, but it's to simulate the g-force. once you sit in there it's really an amazing experience.
