Bushfire Season

Post by NachaLuva » Mon Jan 02, 2012 6:56 pm

Its started...bushfire season is here.

We just had our 1st hot day of the year, some centres were over 40 deg, Warrnambool hit 43 deg. There were several fires in the west of the state & a fire truck got burnt out. Fortunately there have been no injuries, at least none reported.

I know over west has had a few hot days & even some fires but this is the start of our season.

Be aware of fire bans, always extinguish all unattended campfires no matter what the weather, & if the worst happens, you are caught in a fire zone, under no circumstances try to outrun the fire. With the aircon on set on recirc, lie on the floor with wet blankets or towels over you till the firefront passes.

Lets all keep our eyes out for smoke & if you see anything call it in to the CFA or 000. & if you see anyone acting suspiciously, report it immediately or just catch the b*****d!

This season has the potential to be very bad considering the rain we've had & the resulting growth. If in doubt, play it safe & stay in more easily accessible areas.

Enjoy the great outdoors & stay safe peoples :D

+1.

Most of the fires so far have been deliberately lit and lucky containted...

Also, if 4wd'n in grassy areas make sure you keep your undercarriage clear of grass build up, especially on your exhaust. But then again, who would be crazy enough to be 4wd'n in long dry grass??

Cheers
