taza wrote:I want a roof mounted tent but since im moving to the city it wouldn't be worth it. Im putting an SC14 toyota Supercharger on and will run about 4.5psi boost. Should give me around 35% more power, so silimar if not slightly more than the 2.5 in the next gen foz. Plus it will give me heaps of torque which is needed as the 2.0l currently just runs out of puff

Ive read of people doing them and driving over 150,000km with them on runing much more boost so the enigne internals will easily handle it. I can also wire it to have a switch so I can turn it on and off when I want just like an aircon compressor.
My engine has to come out this year sometime though as my massive power and economy loss is due to her burning over 1litre of oil ever 1000km. But once thats sorted and with the SC she should be great

The charger should arrive in the mail tomorrow so I can work on puttin it in next week once ive moved to Perth this weekend

you should defiantly start a build thread once you have started! i am very keen to see how it goes. might even consider it for my forester!

36psi in your tyres is perfect. I run 40 in my yokohamas to improve fuel economy.
32psi is too flat imho.

I tried that and it just stuffed the tyres.
Alex I found out why my EJ20 runs like a dog. Due to the massive amounts of burning oil the valve stem seals are rooted and possibly the rings. Plus its clocked up with 170,000km worth of carbon and gunk that could be cleaned out when these get done. She never used to run so bad. Plus when thats sorted and with the Supercharger on she'll piss along!

Rich, sorry I'm not there to help you but after I return there are some things I'd like to try. One thing for sure is the tappets, probably well overdue.

Hi Paul,
No problems. I totally understand. Whatever you think may help, got lots of return Kal trips this year so the last thing i want is 300k to a tank...
So i now have upper engine cleaner - can someone advise a non mechanical person where is a convenient vacuum hose off the inlet manifold.. yes i did just ask that!

Do tappets affect fuel economy? I'm thinking I need to check my O2 sensor as well...

Do you mind if I ask how much the O2 sensor was?

Try flying to Kal in your plane
I find any small vacuum line nearest to the centre works best.

Yes they will, if they are too tight they will allow compression to escape.

Update;
Roof basket gone and Upper engine clean has been done. Don't have the correct stuff to do the O2 sensor.
Currently getting about 410-430 per 45L tank, which is up 40-50k's Stoked. Engine is feeling smoother so I am happy. Haven't been on any long trips as work has stolen all my previous weekends. Hoping that once I replace the O2 sensor this figures will improve further.
I wish I could Paul, but paying for a plane in Monopoly money just doesn't work!

Awesome. Give me a buzz after the 9th of March and we'll get the car on the hoist and swap out that sensor. I'm hoping to be home (minus some fishing trips) for the full 4 weeks, so see how you go for time.
That damn monoply money doesn't get you very much these days

Update;
Took an hour but the O2 sensor is now new. It has never been replaced, looks well knackered. Finally gave in and got some triflo on the thread and out she came.
I'll be calling you in a week Paul, good to catch up and get the car sorted.

Update:
Hit the magic 450k to the tank. New O2 sensor seems to be helping. Time to take it for a Highway run to see if it is back to its old self.
