I'm moving to Townsville, do we have any members from North QLD?

After having a few issues with my visa, I got a job offer that's a little better than what I had in Australind. So sometime next week I'll be moving to Townsville. Until then, I'm still in Perth. If anyone in WA wants to catch up, PM me or ring my mobile. ::)

I'm itching to get that 3 inch lift you talked about,
and I know TOONGA wants my 2 inch lift.
Any chance you could make my lift a priority job when you get back?

I won't need my car right away,
but I don't need to get into detail "why" on a public forum.
I do have a good reason though.

I'm intending to have my car shipped to Townsville,
and I'd rather have it all fixed up even if I have to wait a few more weeks.

Beautiful one day, perfect the next? Lmao.
I think that's mostly hype, with flooding being so common
(I think I'm going to miss WA a lot

Days and nights can still be hot & sticky unless you are lucky enough to work in air-conditioned office and live in house/unit with aircond too.

35 years was enough for me after coming from the Riverina in NSW.

Not a problem. I HATE cold.

So far in Bunbury, WA from June to December 2011 this is my experience:

- 9 in 10 winter mornings I hate, but by 9am I'm usually all right
- 1 in 2 autumn mornings are still too cold before 9am

- 1 in 8 summer mornings are still too cold, at least before 7:30am

Basically, I'd hate about 200 mornings a year in Bunbury...
perpetually waiting for the sun to reach at least a 20 degree angle?

Since December, I've been living around Perth.
I consider myself fortunate to find a girl to stay with who does not like air-conditioning.
This is splendid for me. The past month our house has been 32-36 C most afternoons.
Sometimes it reaches 39 C inside. I'm happy as a pig in mud!
January 2012 has been perfect for me in Perth.
I find my most favourite day here starts at 20-21 C around sunrise, maxing out at 34-35 C.

**I find it amusing that someone had to bring up the idea of heat as being a negative about North QLD, ha ha ha**

Well luckily enough Townsville only has a handful of days that go below 20 deg c so you should be like a pig in mud. Right now at 8:20 am it is 29.4 deg c in my dining room.

At 7:39pm, just after sunset since WA doesn't do DST, it's 27.5 C inside and I find it "...a bit cool..."

I'm actually a Canadian citizen and have only been in Oz for 1 year.
I've dreamed about living somewhere warm, hot and sunny since I was a boy.

I wonder when I read comments like that if someone is intending:
- you can't live in a place like that since you're Canadian
- but you shouldn't want live in a place like that anyway because...

That is in a way, both teasing me and insulting me since I actually like heat and couldn't have it.
But yeah, that's mostly about growing up in Canada and desparately wanting to leave.

For me, the only significant downsides to Townsville's climate are risk of flooding, cyclones, and run-ins with deadly stingers or saltwater crocs.

I think I should be fine, as it's summer now I prefer anytime of day when it's above 25 C.

And normally I don't talk about weather that much.

Last time I was in FNQ (not sure if Harvey Bay qualifies as FNQ though), the mercury didnt dip below about 25 for 3 weeks!

Sleepless? Recently I've experienced restfull sleep with indoor temperatures as high as 36 C. I prefer cooler temperatures, but 32 C is cool enough with Perth-style humidity.

Isn't Townsville still safer than Darwin from deadly critters?

I always imagined Darwin having higher numbers of crocs and other nasties.

The heat is not the killer it's the bloody humidity level during the Wet Season that does you in.

I think I should be fine, as it's summer now I prefer anytime of day when it's above 25 C.

Add another 5 - 9°C and 85+ humidity and you may change your view of hot weather.
Humidity is a real energy sapper.
I'm not trying to be a kill-joy, I am just letting you know what your in for up there.

Hervey Bay is CQLD lol, NQLD is generally Mackay up ^. Awesome weather up here 320 + days of sunshine and yes the humidity is a killer, well to some people, i barely notice it. And yes there is plenty of dead critters, lol, but that's half the fun lol

I know very well what high humidity with heat is like.
SW WA doesn't have it.

I know if from home; Toronto in the Great Lakes.
That and having several holidays in summer in South Carolina.
I always loved South Carolina in summer, usually hated returning to Canada after
even when South Carolina was 32-37 C and humid with smoldering sun every day
and when I returned to Toronto it was 20-25 C with low humidity

Humidity is not a killjoy, neither is sweat.
I spent SOOOoooo long, not being warm, that I grew to despise prolonged cold... even prolonged coolness.

I'm usually in a good mood while sweating, as long as I'm not sweating too heavily.
And it takes a lot for me to sweat normally....

I'm looking forward to meeting you guys for a "...nOice hot cuppa..." this February.

I still drink hot tea if the heat index is below 40 C.

I knew a bloke who would swear that if you're stinkin hot, then a hot cuppa would cool you down by making you sweat more! He failed to understand that the reason you sweat more is cos you're hotter.

This guy was my chemistry teacher in school!!!

Actually, I think hot drinks still make me hotter. I just love them and find it funny to make myself sweat even more. It does not improve my comfort, sweat-wise.

But yeah, that seems to be a common belief in Asia and the Middle East that it works.
Me, I love an ice cold drink if I feel a bit fatigued in summer.

I also fail to see the logic how a drink temperature of -2 C to +2 C cannot improve comfort when someone is hot.
Some people believe a cold drink is bad for you when you're hot.
Umm... then why are ice cream and icey-poles so refreshing on a hot day?

In WA it's easy. Highway tyres are great in just about every condition.
Nearly everywhere offroad is sandy, so floatation is more of an issue than grip.

I was considering getting some 15" wheels for larger, wider tyres sometime.
Somewhere in the 205-225mm tread width range would be perfect in WA...

But since I'll be in North QLD, I'm not so sure.

Is floatation still needed?
All-terrain or mud-terrain is better?

I think I'd like to keep two sets of tyres;
one for general purpose and another for tougher offroad conditions.
