Mmmm interesting.
Its possible that 85-86 ECU's used high current driver transistors, and in 87, they decided it was more cost effective to use smaller transistors and a resistor
Hey Jono, can you measure the resistance of your 85/86 injectors, I have some 88 injectors I'll measure
