EA82 Carby leak?

Hey guys just noticed today that around one of the Carby gaskets theres a small green leak :confused:

Could this cause any problems? engine was running a bit rough(idling funny) at one point. then when i turned the car off had lots of trouble turning it back over.

This will happen not very often, maybe usually once every couple of months but seems to happen if im giving it a bit (eg going up hills) and then when i come to idle at the lights or something itll run really rough.

Ill give it a little touch of the accelerator and it will idle up high then go back to a rough idle.

Hey Indy, I had some leaks in the same location with my weber. Mine seemed to run ok, but it could be leaking into the engine and that's not ideal, esp over time.

I would buy some generic paper gasket and make yourself a new one. Or there are some on ebay that will save the effort. Finding the right one my require a bit of research/communication with the seller.

Its easy to do and you will learn a bit while your at it. Also good time of year to be working in the shed at night.

You will need two gaskets. As there is a polysomething plastic type spacer that works as an insulator to reduce heat transfer to the carb. Also be prepared to do a bit of cleaning the surfaces of the old gasket. I just used a razor blade but there would be a better way no doubt.

My guess would be water pump as I had the same thing go on my EJ20. But im sure someone has a definate answer.

Yep, this would be the way to go, or make some from a cereal box - I've done this plenty of times before for gaskets and it works a treat!

It could be this plastic thing that's cracked, allowing coolant to seep out of the warming jacket on the intake manifold.

:confused: It's the carb area Taza ;) Check yours, it's common for the L series to lose coolant from corroding hoses in this area - if you see one get it sorted ;)
