Well after my PS pump shat itself last october I've finally got a second hand unit sorted - after much pain through the whole thing I've finally got it bolted on the engine as it should be, now I've just got to find my PS/alt/crank belt

What I found was that the L series PS pump was at first only different in the reservoir design and that was solved by bolting the EJ reservoir on. The next and most important difference is the mounting bolt pattern. While it all looks the same it's actually different - and you only find it out when you go to bolt the wrong pump to the wrong bracket.
Here's two EJ PS pump brackets:

While they look the same they're actually different, this is the same two brackets face to face to show the difference in the bolting pattern:

After shelving the L series PS pump idea I bit the bullet and got a second hand unit from a liberty. Got home only to find that it was the same bolting pattern as the L series PS pump! I was super pissed that I didn't think to grab the bracket at the same time! A few weeks later and I was lucky to find the bracket I was after - from another liberty!
I didn't know about these differences until now, and I wonder how many others know about this and how long these two different bolting patterns were used for...
The bonus out of all of this for me is that I've now got a spare PS pump - which if Murphy has anything to do with it I won't need this unit, EVER!

Cheers
