Was first intermittent set up - just trying to update with bits I had kicking around - tidy the place up a bit and have such luxury

I've pestered my Subie parts fella to find the old parts books for MY and Brumby do not reveal much - no part listed for any intermittent relay , module etc and the switches really only differe from sedan to wagon with rear wipe and squirt circuit. Good luck to any others attempting same

May work well pre 92 Brumby - maybe my control module is screwed

Yeah Sunnie the Brumby had intermittent wipers - now they're intermittent when they want to be!

Someone had previously swapped out the switch and added some wiring to the circuit. There's a silver can under the bonnet near the wiper washer bottle that's got no markings on it, but has 6 wires in it, is cylindrical in shape and is tapped into the wiper's wiring, with one added wire that goes back somewhere to the switching area.

I think this little can needs to be replaced, with what I don't know, or the wiper grey box thing that you've got pictured above needs to be looked at. The wipers don't self return until the intermittent works again... Got a few little gremlins to work out in that ute.

Might just put him on the rotisserie after Ruby Scoo's done

Do you still need info on the factory MY intermittent wipers. ?
Today is the first (weekend) day it hasnt (yet) rained for 2 weeks and since my MY is outside till I can clear the garage out I couldnt get to the car.
If you still need pictures I probably could do this but if you are now all sorted I wont start pulling the dash apart.

Cliff, thanks, tell you what, would not hurt to compare, to assist the next black duck that stumbles on the idea.Yours is 82 and my diagrams are for 84 - which are different to my 92 Brumby. I have ordered a Hella jobbie from the US to do the job. Up to you to do when you can, if you can, feel like it etc. Thanks
And no need to pull dash apart, maybe just lower skirt and see what grey box you have just right of the steering column, numbers on it etc

Err...Cliff ? I found one of the grey units in an L Series, maybe I have been chasing my tail for nothing, trying to make an l module work in an MY.

If you still can get a pic'd be nice

to help others. I went down the Hella track of aftermarket - yet to fit it !!

This fixed the problem - an MY intermittent relay can as described by others, like a flasher can as the wrecker said to me when i fixed him up for a pair of radius rods, a lower control arm and "huh, that's a rare item - a flasher can - $50"

works a bloody charm! Now I can just push the washers and get a swipe or two at low speed and they stop, low speed and high speed works well too.

To think how many attempts I had, how many hours (days) I wasted trying to make that (what turns out to be an L Series wiper relay

) grey box work in my Brumby.

Now gonna save time not fitting my Hella unit

Anyone else wanting to do same contact gtcompletepower aka thebrumbyshop/store as he said he had both the wiper switch and relay unit at a reasonable priceand they were simply plug and play. That white plug with yellow loop wire comes out from under dash, plug in the correct flasher can and yep it works bloody brill'

Given that the UK is world famous for its hot never ending sunshine - nah make that wet rain

We had these things fitted as standard kit on our MV's (Brumby's)
Tremendous foresight on the part of Subaru Uk to order the UK Spec'd vehicles with such a small but useful item:p Pity they saw fit to over look other such items as, Air Con, Electric windows, Cloth seats, Rear discbrakes, Targa roof etc etc etc ah well........................

Finally got my act together and took a photo from the area between the steering column and the fusebox/RH side of the car. It reveals up to 4 silver, round canisters with the main 2 in the foreground. Is this useful, does anyone want any other pics while I am at it, am I in the right area for what is needed ?

Thanks Cliff - better late than never

Think you have found the headlight relays and a few more - all same part number.

I've got mine sorted, and should add a picture to help others.

That cannister in pic above is about 30mm dia, 60mm high.

If you have no intermittent, you'd find this white connector pictured back a page, with the yellow loop in the wire loom between steering column and fuse panel then in the middle towards firewall, likely attached via the bracket to something secure.

all self inflicted - was certain the grey plastic box came with the dash switch - turns out to have been an L I pulled apart and bits not marked - because they are all LEGO , right?.

I took this some time ago from MY '85 Brumby:

It shows the module for wipers ... ( round can + 6 pin ) ... you can ignore the rest below ( they are for door locks ).

Ya know, I was looking for my white plug with the yellow bridge wire in my 84 Brumby and it ain't bloody there! Maybe only 91 and 92 models got the wiring ?
